Check out Northwoods Overland offroad park. Noticed in their blog that the Izusu club went up to help them do some trail building. Anyone interested in taking a L.O.S.T. Contingent up for a work/play weekend? I'm going to check it out this weekend. |

![]() I go up to a lake about an hour north of there and it takes me about 5 1/2 hours so I would expect this place to be 4 to 4 1/2 hours from us. |

Didn't get a chance to check it out this last weekend, but I got an email from the owner. They don't open the trails until July 4th weekend. I'll be up in Wisconsin on vacation the week after the 4th and plan on running what they have open. If anyone is interested in meeting me up there sometime during the week of 7 July, let me know, I'm flexible. |

![]() This is private property so no tag is needed. I don't think that WI has ORV tags. the only land you can wheel on is either private or National Forest. I don't think the state forests allow offroading. |

Ok, Drove over to Spirit Lake to take a look around and talked to the owner. I think this would be a great spot for a little wheeling in the fall weekend, maybe try to time it so we hit peak autumn color in September. This area is part of the terminal moraine. What that means is when the last major glaciers covered the great lakes area, this is the farthest they glaciers pushed south. When they retreated, all the rock and gravel and earth the glacier was pushing was deposited here at the "Terminal Moraine". The country is very hilly, completely forested and pocked with lakes everywhere. They have graded all of the trails, green, yellow or red, with green trails can be run by stock vehicle. I walked one of the yellow trails and was impressed. Not all the trails are open yet, and he is still working on an obstacle course/ playground area should have it constructed late this year. They have plenty of campsites, All beautiful, some with a view of spirit lake, some in the woods. The owner offered to let us setup as a group. If need be, He will mow another area for us. I'm going to be up there the week of July 7th to run the trails, not sure which day I'm going wheeling, I'll no more as it gets closer. MNKK and anyone else interested, I'll keep you updated. Takes 5 hours to get there from north central Illinois so Its not a one day wheeling trip for those in the Chicago area, but I think its worth the trip. |

I'd be up for a camping/offroading weekend in the fall Lots of camping available on site. He's got about 8 electric sites, lots of non-electric and some tent sites as well. He also mentioned that there is a hunting cabin on site that slept 10-15 that we could rent for not much. |

So, I talked to my dad earlier yesterday, and I found out that he has to work on the 12 and 13th of july, so I don't or wont feel bad if I head out of town the day after his B-Day. I just figure on taking him fishing that monday anyway. And I talked to my buddy, and he is planning on going with me out there. I just need to mapquest it, and then umm, mention this to my wife...lol. I don't think she will want to go, but I would not mind if she did. I would like to get her in to this. And hopefully get her driving the jeep on the trails. But maybe once we get to NorCarolina. So, is anyone else planning on going that weekend, or maybe going? Can't we get a group one of those days? come on? who wants to see me test this da*n KK out? lol. wow, i guess its closer than I thought... google maps says 3.5 hrs roughly. |

I was thinking weekend of Sept 19,20,21 or Sept 26,27,28 would be best for fall color. Fri-Sun I'm going up next week and hope to run the trails, will post a review then. Scott |
