Could you have been pulled out backwards? I don't mean to beat a dead horse here, but this situation has me wondering what if Rob or anyone else for that matter with a winch would not have been there?
I probably could have driven up and used a normal strap ( my MT's made short work of the muck - Jayme had issues thanks to the ATs ) but I didn't want to risk getting stuck myself trying to reverse with a load in muck which could have lead to my tires spinning and me just sitting there.
That was a terrible sentence...
As Jayme also said, I tried to pass her on the left, but the lay of the land and ruts had me starting to slide towards her vehicle - I backed out of that situation.
Could I have pulled her with a strap only - yes, but I didn't want to chance getting myself stuck. Bet chance of recovery ( in our case ) was winching. What you don't see in the pictures is there's a curve about 5 feet behind my vehicle - we could have hooked a few straps together, but there would have been no room for me to back up.
On a second try Jayme took a different line further left and made it through no problems
