Due to everyone wanting to wait until late march for a possible run to Rockport, a few have asked if anyone is planning on another Badlnads Run in the meantime.

President's Day weekend is as good as any. Feb 18th is the Saturday before President's Day.

Who's up for it?

So what kind of stuff do I need to attend the badlands? I see pictures of people with flags on their Jeeps. Where do you guys get them and where do you mount them. Do I need to sign some wavier when I show up and register my vehicle with them?

Also, how well will a set of A/Ts do out there? My Destination A/Ts work well enough out west in the sand, dirt and rock but I know in the midwest for alot of trails M/Ts are a must.

Badlands requires Flags - they sell them there for aboputh $ 15 I think - mounting will be easy and just use a temporary mount.
Tires: you A/T tires will do ok there - if there is a lot of mud - m/t tires will do better

I just used two nylon "zip" ties and put the flag on my spare tire mount. It does make getting in the rear window a PITA but worked great and can not beat the price. I have seen others use a piece of L-stock metal mounted on the spare tire mount as well. A 3 foot piece was about $7 at Home Depot but I was lazy and cheap and just bought a pack of 100 "zip" ties instead

I did the zip tie thing the first time. This time I had my wife sew up a flag made out of red canvas she bought at the fabric store and I slipped it over my firestik. Firestik was connected to the l-bracket science guy was talking about. I basically drilled two holes in the L for where the top of the spare tire mount bolts onto the jeep, and one larger hole for the firestik.

It's kind olf a modified version of this idea, but very close:

Where at in homedepot can I get some of that L-stock metal. I'm sure if I went into the store and asked I would get a blank look.

It's in the same isle as the screws and nails. I used aluminum because its easier to cut with a jigsaw. Make sure you have a rasp as well to make the hole for the flag/cb antenna bigger. it's at least a 3/8" to 1'2" hole. I'll measure later and tell you for sure.

Also, if you wanna buy a flag ahead of time, go to your local ATV shop. They should selle em there, and cheaper than what they cost at the badlands. Otherwise the CB Flag I made worked out real well.

I picked up my flag (bike flag) at Walmart for $5

Man I'm really looking froward to this run. I haven't really had a chance to 4-wheel since I left New Mexico 6 months ago :( Going through withdrawal.

9 am in the Badlands inside lot sound good?

We'll be on CB channel 16. It would also be good for all the guys not meeting up at our normal spot outside Chicago (I-294 O'Hare Oasis) to PM me a cell phone number.

We have also started a tradition of hot dogs grilled on the trail for lunch, so if anyone wants to contribute chips, soda, etc. that'd help. We'll get that all ironed out the week before the event when I ask for a final yay or nay from everyone.
