My brother and I have been hanging around this forum for the past few days as we are looking at buying a lifted KJ which is awesome, as i realize it is hard to find one with a lift and offroad ready. The issue is that I know about TJs as I have one but am completely DUMB at KJs and IFS stuff. Wondering if someone from this forum could come out with us and check it out before we put the money in hand and buy a car with problem unknown now.

Issues:
Has was looks like a 3" lift and 32" tires, old man emu shocks. The issue arrises whenever we hit bumps going down the road it will pound, not hard, but make a noticable jolt. I was thinking balljoints but then thought it could be the arms of the axle hitting something, like the coil.

JEEP IS IN DEARBORN.
If someone could help that would be awesome. Please email me eugene.black@comcast.net

Does the KJ have extended bumpstops in the front/rear? Mine used to have that "jolt" until I installed the extended stops.

I am not sure. I would assume it does. It is a vehicle that the current dealer knows nothing about. It looks to be put together extremely well and has a new engine, but dont want to deal with a problematic issue in the front axle. I know it is nothing huge, maybe needs the shocks adjusted or longer A arms???

I have been looking on the forum here and noticed it could be a loose sway bar?

It could be either of those issues as well. I'm not a huge "expert" on the suspension system.

You might want to try reposting your original post in the "General Discussions" forum - you'll get more visibility.

Could be a lot of things, sway bars, needs bumpstops, ball joints, could be A-Arms hitting on struts or the inner body pocket, etc.
Probably nothing that is a major issue, just annoying. hopefully Tommudd will chime in, he is one of our current experts.
Also maybe get ahold of Marlon @ jeepin by Al, call the number is your best bet....

I am available Monday evening if you still need help.

Give me a call at 313-Triple Three-4373. If I don't answer, send text letting me know who you are, and I will call you back.

If I'm not in Detroit, I'm in Ypsi, and if not there, somewhere inbetween so no big deal. ;)

I am leaving to go look at again in a few minutes. I did notice that the A-Arm was hitting the body on flat ground. Is their a way to cut off or shave some metal off of the body pocket so that it doesnt hit the A-Arm? Ill hopefull send some pics of it in my driveway!! LOL its my brothers jeep and im more excited than he is.

Things il be looking over:

Suspension,
A-Arm hitting body pocket,
Sway bar,
Strut washers,

Problem Solved!

I went to the shop yesterday and luckily the owner of the auto shop was an awesome guy. He allowed me to have the truck on the lift all day and not only figure out the issue but also solve it.

On the jeep:
2004 Liberty, 50K, Manual
OME927 coil springs front
Not sure lift springs for rear
Old Man Emu shocks all the way around
Arb front bumper painted to match flares
Smittybilt winch
265 m/t tires
Mickey T. DC II's
Renegade light package
8" hella bumper mounted lights
surco roof rack
and alot more upgrades...

And the problem was the fact that he has the lift spirngs and a 2" aluminum coil spacer which made the control arm bottom out completely. I was able to convince the shop owner and the current dealer to take off the spacer before we test drove it, which he did, and after it was out, it not only sat level front and rear but also made the ride excellent. And best of all no more jolting.

I have to thank tommud to helping me out soo much and walking me through almost an hour of time on the phone while I was standing under the jeep. I cant beleive the quality of people not only from tommud but also people volunteering to help out with this purchase that I have never met!

tommud my brother and I owe you a huge favor and cant thank you enough. We put down a down payment on the jeep yesterday and am picking it up tomorrow.

Congrats on your new purchase. I'm sure you'll be happy with it. Sounds like it's already set up pretty well. Tom was the first member on this forum I met too, and as such is responsible for my current obsession with my KJ!! :ROTFL:
