Post subject:  Indy and surrounding area ....
I'm noticing more and more members in and around the Indianapolis area.
Since I work on the south side I'd like to see if we can't all get together.

I know this will take some planning, but I'm sure that we can find a way to get L.O.S.T. in Indy.

I work 3-11 and my days off are Tuesday and Wednesday.

I'm thinking that most 'normal' people have the weekends off, I'm up for coming into Indy early to meet anyone, anywhere.

So, lets put our heads together and see if we can't come up with a time and place to meet.

Hey, you never know, maybe this could turn into a regular thing.

I live near Beach Grove on the south side of Indianapolis. Weekend are the best time for me but I am also a school teacher so weekday are not out of the question once summer gets here. Weather you want to wheel or just throw down a few beers, count me in. I have been meaning to look into trails around the Hoosier National Forest but doubled up on classes so I could finish my masters in Aug so I have not gotten around to actually looking. Sounds like fun!

Disclaimer: I'm not trying to hijack this thread. I'm jumping in here because I'm looking for tire recommendations specific to central Indiana. What works in Wisconsin and Michigan doesn't necessarily work here.

I need to replace my "death wish" Wrangler ST's on my Liberty. With all the rain we've had this month, the rear wheels are slipping way too much. I've been researching tires all week and making myself crazy with specs and Tire Rack reviews. Bottom line: I want the beefiest A/T or M/T tires that won't require me to lift our KJ. We rarely (next to never) drive off-road -- a shame, I know -- so I'm trying to come to grips with the fact that as much as I like the aggressive look of M/T tires, they may not really be what we need. I know that no single tire will excel in all conditions, but I want to buy the next best thing.

Here's what matters most, in order of importance:
1. Traction on wet pavement
2. Traction on snow-covered roads
3. Aggressive 4x4 styling
(Dry traction is a given.)

From my reading, it seems the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo is the tire I need for good road manners while still being capable off road, in 245/70R16. My Jeep dealer promised I'd have no rubbing with a 225 or 235/75 series tire since 215/75 is OE and 235/70 is OE optional, so I'm also considering these tires:

BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KO in 225/75SR16
Bridgestone Dueler M/T D673 in 225/75SR16
Firestone Destination M/T in 225/75R16
BF Goodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM in 225/75QR16

What are your thoughts?

How can these M/T tires get "excellent" and "superior" wet traction ratings at tirerack.com, yet be lousy on wet roads as people say. Can't be any slicker than my Wrangler ST's, right?

I love my 245/70/16 Goodyear Silent Armor Wrangler but I have also read that the Revos are very nice. I dont think you could go wrong with either. I have used the Silent Armor for one Indiana winter and driven off-road several times.

Thanks, Science_Guy, for chiming in. The Silent Armors have unique look to them that I'm sure makes your Liberty stand out. I probably see two or three dozen KJs on the road every day, and nearly all are wearing Wrangler SR-As. Your tires are way better. The more I think about it, the more annoyed I am that Jeep cuts corners by equipping their new vehicles with such lousy tires. Looks like they may be phasing out the 215/75R16 Wrangler STs. I hope so. These tires on a Liberty are dangerous.

I've noticed more and more many KJ owners singing the praises of the Generals. People say they're as good an all-around SUV tire as the BFG All-Terrain T/A at about 70% the cost of the BFG. So I'm leaning toward the Generals in 235/70TR16 because they will fit my unlifted '03 KJ, and should provide excellent wet road traction (most important!) and better off-road capability and appearance over my stock Wrangler ST's. Another reason to go with cheaper tires is that I'll have a few hundred dollars more to put toward bigger tires when I eventually install a lift kit. I'd probably keep the 235's as daily drivers and then buy a set of 31" mud tires to swap out when it's time to hit the trails. Nobody in town seems to stock the Grabber AT2, but Tire Barn can order and install a set of five for $595.

I can't tell everyone here THANK YOU enough. You guys are the coolest, friendliest bunch on the 'Net. I learn about KJs and offroading in general every time I visit this forum.

Go with 245/70-16 they fit no rubbing on an unlifted KJ and kive it a nice look at the same time.

I thought about that because they're only $5 more per tire, but I don't want to take chances if for some reason the 245 size doesn't work out. These are not in-stock tires, so I wouldn't be able to exchange them if they rub, etc. Guess that's an advantage of going with Firestone/Bridgestone tires, that 30-day test-drive.
