| Post subject: | Early September Trail Run - Colorado |
OK this is the not so stocker friendly trail run. Saturday, September 16 work for everyone? Here are a few trails we could decide on, unless someone has another suggestion. Chinaman Gulch: http://www.traildamage.com/trails/index.php?id=1 Red Elephant/Mill Creek: http://www.traildamage.com/trails/index.php?id=46 http://www.traildamage.com/trails/index.php?id=105 Moody Hill: http://www.traildamage.com/trails/index.php?id=72 Iron Chest/Grizzly Lake: http://www.traildamage.com/trails/index.php?id=8 http://www.traildamage.com/trails/index.php?id=55 Eagle Rock/Saran Wrap: http://www.traildamage.com/trails/index.php?id=39 http://www.traildamage.com/trails/index.php?id=69 I was originally thinking Saturday, Sept 9, but Ted will be out of town and my baby's girls first birthday party is Sept 9, so if you guys want to run an easy trail Sept 9, someone would need to lead that. Or, if we do it the following weekend, I will atleast be there to help lead. |

ARGGG!!!!!! The wife and I are going to be out of town the weekend of the 16th, otherwise I would be soooo in. Moody Hill is right in my back yard, and I've done the trail several times before. Although, I haven't done it this year, or in my liberty. I'll have to try a short run this weekend, and I'll let you know it's condition. The trail is reletively short, but can be made longer by taking it all the way to the Rock Quarry (left) for the view, or going the other way to get to Crystal Mountain (right, but twists and turns). From the Moody Hill entrance the access is not in dispute. Coming straight from 44H (Buckhorn) the entrance is in dispute and often gated. Crystal Mountain is definately NOT stocker friendly, and I would not feel comfortable making a run over some of those obsticles alone. Spotter is a must, second vehicle for recovery is recommended. Both trails are a good time. |

http://w101.photobucket.com/widgets/dynamicflash.php?featuretype=bucketshow&featurename=moody_hill_082606&pa=/m78/SpoonyG_2006/ Here are some pictures of the trail as of this last Saturday. The panoram pics of the views were from last year, but you get the point. Saturday, because I was alone and it was raining, I didn't take it all the way to the top. There was plenty of entertainment, and should be a good run should you guys decide to go. Again, I won't be able to go that weekend, but if you plan on doing it the following weekend or in October, it won't break my heart. Another fun run to add to the day could also be running from the east entrance to Storm Mountain. The trail is only open from that side during September. It just opened on Saturday, and will stay open until 9/25. This is a neat trail because it has a fair amount of stocker friendlyish trails, and runs through a burn area from about 8 years ago. It's pretty sureal, and not something you get to see too often. If anyone is interested in doing an impromptu run to Storm Mountain from this side, I'd be happy to show them the way if I'm available, or let me know and I'll provide as many details as needed. |
