Post subject:  UTAH KJ Run - American Fork Canyon - Sat Aug 26

Where: American Fork Canyon - Time 10AM Tibble Fork
Trail: As of right now, we may try Forest Lake or Mary Ellen Gultch
When: Sat, Aug 26
Who:Anybody who has a Jeep Liberty in the SL Metro Area

People, let's get together again and do a run. We have quite a bit of people who have some built up rigs. Even if you don't, there are trails for us to do.

Please post if you can make it and we will adjust the trail depending on who comes.

It's getting late in the season and before you know it we will have snow up there and it will be closed, come out and enjoy AF canyon, it's one of the best places to wheel around SL this time of year.

I'm sure to be there. I am good to meet everyone in the group in the morning.

Remember that I am less skids/rock rails/nice tires. So hopefully I am not holding the group back too much.

Shoot - I was just looking at pictures from when we all went to Little Moab. What happened to all of the guys that came out for that? We had a great turnout. I think it is time to start sending PM's for personal invitations. Come on guys!

I'll be there. I have a church campout the night before, so I don't know that I can be at the reservoir much before 10, but I'll see what I can do.

Hopefully I'll have my new JKS quick disco by then. :D

Maybe I'll even take the time to clean out the red Moab dust, too, and bang my tranny skid back into shape so it doesn't vibrate against my exhaust...

We had a fun, albeit really weird, day.

We decided to head up what I think was Mary Ellen Gulch, but when we got there it had disappeared. I don't know if I was just totally lost, or if the mine reclamation work that's going on up there obliterated the trail.

In any case, we hit a dead end, so we decided to try Forest Lake.

We headed that direction and, about 1/4 mile from the trail head, we got sidetracked. A married couple passed us on a pair of quads. The guy passed us first (I was in the lead), and hit a little crevice in the road that almost flipped him over. He was about 100 feet ahead of me when he hit it, so I didn't really notice.

Well, his wife was about 50 feet behind him, and hit the dip at about 25 mph. The quad bounced in the air and rolled 3 or 4 time, and finally landed right-side-up. Luckily, she was thrown clear when the quad bounced in the air, so it didn't roll on top of her. Luckily, she was wearing a helmet (broken now), and ended up with only scrapes, cuts, bruises, and some lost skin on one of her legs, an arm, and both hands. Very fortunate.

So, we ended up spending the next few hours bandaging her up (luckly Jason/1stJeepKJ knows quite a bit about first aid, and I had my first aid kit with me) and getting them back to their truck. The quad was still running, but has a bent axle and the bead on the right rear tire popped, so we had to drive it all the way back to the reservoir on a flat tire.

All in all a memorable adventure. Hopefully the next run will be more...um...normal.

that's sucks, dosen't suprise me - those quads haul down those roads. Last time I was at forest lake a quad was coming down and ran into 1 of the trucks in my convey, took out a front turn signal... this was with a forest service guy watching him on his dirt bike

Glad she was OK.

Glad you showed up Troy. Mary Ellen Gulch is a little tricky to find, I've been once and got lost the second time :)

Any pics?? :)

I was definitely a trip to remember. Unfortunately only for those of use who were there. We all forgot our cameras. I think Troy had his cell phone/camera but we got sidetracked and never really thought about taking any pics.
