Ok so here is the deal. I went and ran slaughter house with a buddy of mine last year. I used 2 round abouts in places where I felt I would hit ground. I am open on the underside and figured I didnt want to mess to much up.

He is convinced that the Liberty sucks off road and can do anything that any other suv can...like pathfinders, 4runners, and so on. He is also 100% convinced that a liberty could not make it through slaughter house with out getting stuck, using round abouts, or breaking. he is also convinced that I talk the liberty up so much....and that there is no way it can do things I say.

Besides beating him with a baseball bat...anyone have any suggestions?

Is he kidding? We've run Slaughterhouse many times and I consider it to be one of the easier runs we do. I just did it in snow a couple months back. If you have open diffs it requires some spotting in a couple places, but no big deal. So, I'd say just bring him along on one of our runs. Once he sees 10 KJs make it without issue maybe he'll rethink things.

Have him look at these pics... http://www.rocklizardfabrications.com/trail_rides.htm

There isn't anything from Slaughterhouse, but honestly most of the trails pictured are more difficult. I wonder if your buddy is much of a wheeler since he thinks Slaughterhouse is a trail that would really test a vehicle?.?

Edit: Here are some of our Libbies conquering SHG: http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/vie ... id=4286247 (BTW, the first hill and the mud pit are now closed by the Forest Service, and the one spot where the moguls were deep and nasty has been smoothed out...even less challenging now)

He had a bronco when he was in college and then a CJ5 up until 2 weeks ago. He thinks the Libby is no better than any other SUV with 4lo.

That's pretty much true...just like his former vehicles. It takes a few mods for any vehicle to truly shine off road and all have their strengths and weaknesses. The KJ is a nice platform to start with though because it has great angles, an ideal wheelbase (imho), the same transfer case pretty much every other Jeep uses, decent stock gearing, etc. I guess I'm not getting his point...were his former vehicles modded or stock? Does he think they were superior to other suvs when they came off the assembly line? How so?

I'll take my fuel injection and coil springs over his CJ anyday.

Regarding his feeling that anything can be done on the Internet...I again welcome him to come out wheeling with us. Plus we have plenty of Wrangler and Cherokee owners (if he finds them more "credible") that wheel with us and would be happy to vouch for the KJ's abilities. My guess is he thinks of himself as some sort of "off road purest" but hasn't ever really taken the time to do his research or had much experience with other vehicles. It's pretty hard to change those folks' minds no matter what you show or tell them. They just won't hear of it...kinda sad. Wheel it if you got it! :D

If the KJ is no better than any other SUV with 4LO, then his CJ falls into the same category.

The CJ does have 4Lo right or is he talking about manual vs auto?

Tell him we challenge him to go do a trail, of our choice, with us. If he doesn't show he needs to shut up. Simple as that.

I followed him through SHG in his CJ5....and because I went around 2 places that he went apparently the KJ sucks balls off road. He thinks I talk them up and I think he talks them down big time.

Either way....I wil invite him for a run this year.

Feel free to invite him out the next time we do Wheeler Lake. I have a couple of guys I want to invite on that run as well (they're still talking crap after I got hung up in the same spot as a K5 Blazer on 35s) I just can't get over these guys that say the KJ sucks because it can't keep up with a CJ/YJ/TJ with $10,000 of mods. First, most of us don't have that kind of money invested in mods yet. And second, the KJ was to fill the same market niche as the XJ, so if you're going to compare apples to apples, compare the KJ to the XJ.

Hey I remember that run,I believe the blazer had lockers to.Some poeple just have a negitive attitude torwards a different vehicle being good offroad. The run KW AV8R was talking about a guy with a well built TJ had nothing good to say about KJ's and said that the only good Jeep's are CJ's(and he was driving a TJ  ).He gave KW AV8R a hard time but he did really good for not having lockers, and he just raised his nose and turned away when I was going everywhere he was in my KJ.Yeah I don't do all the crazy lines like some poeple(ted) but I'm not going to ruin my KJ for something stupid and it is my daily driver. You can still have fun and bypass the "yeah going to break something" lines.I still get alot of nice KJ do you wheel it questions, and when I show the pics of some of the runs I've been on then they say "well I guess you can wheel a Liberty after all".Back in South Dakota all my friends no better than to make fun of KJ's because I embarassed many of my friends by going where they can't and pulling there stuck butts out with my "girlie Jeep".Bring him on a run with us and if that doesn't change his mind nothing will.

Don't forget to tak a look at the "Trail Run Index" sticky near the top of our forum too. Lots of shots of us doing 'real' wheeling. All of them photoshopped of course

This is what I am trying to explain to him.....I bought my Kj for a few reasons.

#1: I love the look of it. I think if done right it looks freaking amazing
#2: I am not into crazy offroading...SHG or Jenny Creek is as tough I want to go...its my daily driver and I am super nit picky about my things....lol.
#3: I can wash, wax, and vacuum it and it looks sexy and I can drive it to work with clients and so on no problem.

Its fits everything I need... 8) My EX-gf was the same way. She had an exterra and she said the libby sucked off road...and yet hers was never in 4lo. Ijust dont get the statements people make with no knowledge and no experience. I was convinced the KJ stunk offroad, thats all I was hearing from people, then I joined this site and saw other wise.

I still am going to kick him in the nuts.

That last post tells me he has not seen our rigs. I get a lot of people looking at my leather interior and don't believe I go wheelin with it. I have to pull out my Moab shots.

Like Jeger says.....give him a cup check.
