I'll be at the Academy auto hobby doing my diff changes and rear isolator add-ons along with taking my rear bumper to Marty's for a little work upgrade and won't want to hit trails with a loose bumper inside. Also wearing my stock wheels/tires. Was going to do it on Saturday but Marty isn't able to do it then. I'm not making two trips to the Springs in one weekend. |

well I went up to dakan road and it was closed so I hit hidden valley. Didnt go to far as I was alone and had a passanger. It was awesome conditions. A little slick to make it interesting, but grippy enough to have no real worries. I am thinking of going up this coming weekend if anyone is interested. joe |

On the way out there was also a guy in a wrangler who was acting like a retard. he rammed one of the steel gates and bent it then knocked it over. It was 2 young kids in a fully built rig. I was straddling a rut and they pulled up and then parked right at the top of it and forced me out of the way. They are reason why trails are closing down....sadly I couldnt get a plate. joe |

You should have gotten their plates and reported them. |

I was trying....I couldnt see them and they took off down the trail rather fast. I replaced the gate, re-latched it, and tried bending it back into shape the best I could. The gate was up, we went by and hit the trail. On the way back we only passed them and the gate was bashed pretty good. Joe |

Dakan and Rampart won't be open till the middle or later part of this month, due to the wet conditions. I've seen that rig around before last season up Dakan, it's some dumb@$$ (about the same age as me On a semi-related note, anyone ever see that article a year or so ago in the Denver Post..."Beer-guzzling teens flock to Pike National Forest"?..it talked about how idiots my age were going (they still do) up Dakan, Jackson's Creek, and the whole Rampart area to throw massive raging camp parties that left behind pounds of trash everywhere. Anyone want to help me scare these idiots away from the forest this summer, because I hate seeing their trash all over, their rigs, however built/not built they are, going off the trail whenever possible, and their party car-trains, always making me pull of the trail for 5 minutes to let 15 vehicles pass by, packed full of kids who only appreciate the isolation provided for them by nature because it allows them to get inebriated without getting caught. Sure, I drink when I go camping but I pick up my booze-canisters and camp where I'm supposed to! Sorry about the rant. People my age...I guess they just piss me off |

Next time you see them out on the trail doing something they shouldn't, let me know. I'll need you to get a good vehicle description, the license plate numbers, a good description of the people, date and time, where exactly they were and what they were doing (pictures or video would be great). I have a contact at the Forestry Service that I could forward that information to and he might be able to do something (e.g.: $250 fine/incident of leaving the trail, fines for property destruction, or even vehicle impounded, though the last is very unlikely). Another thing you could do is to call the local Police Dept when you see them (with license plate numbers and vehicle descriptions) and they can stop them as soon as they hit roads. *CSP (I think this is the right number) on a cell phone is how to get in touch with the state police to let them know about drunk drivers, road rage, etc. I've had to do this before when some guy was driving very erratically. The police had me follow the guy at a safe distance giving them position reports until they could pull him over, then asked for me to park nearby and fill out a report. Both options may work and they could possibly get hit for their on-road behavior as well as their off-road behavior. |

I'm not too worried. Like I said, the Sheriff will be all over that area when it opens, looking for MIPs to hand out, and our little buddy will most likely get one (I can't imagine his drunken behavior!?). I've seen him around a lot and enforcement will catch up with him. If he's still romping around like an idiot by this summer, I will definitely take action to refer him to the authorities. Problem is, I'm not sure if it's the same person always driving that rig, but the rig is unmistakeable and the driver looked the same in previous sightings where I could get close enough to make out a face. |
