Post subject:  CV problems
It looks like I am not going to be able to make it to MOAB. I noticed the other day my cv boots have come loose on the bottom and appear to be sliding on the shafts. I have to get this looked at and figure out a solution. Has any one had this problem? I have already had them replaced once while I was in Iceland they had gotten torn while I was on a trail. Any suggestions on what to do?

So what you are saying is that the small ended cuff is sliding up on the shaft?

If that is so it sounds like they did not tighten the band clamps enough when they put them on and/or did not put the cuff on the groves where the stock location for the cuff is. I would say that if there is no gap where junk could get into the boot that you should get a couple of new CV clamps from the auto parts store and replace the old ones.

While they are loose, wouldn't hurt to shoot grease in there while you are working on it...

Shouldn't be a problem, come to MOAB man!!!!


As for the typr of grease, I do not know,maybe ask TKTJ (Troy)

Make sure the grease you use is high temp grease make for CV joints,most auto parts stores will have it though you may have to ask for it.It's more expensive but the extreme pressure and temps in CV's need a special grease,DO NOT USE ORDINARY GREASE USED IN BEARINGS OR BALLJOINTS(did I get my point out?),not even synthetic automotive grease can handle it.Use the special CV grease and your CV's will be happy :D .
