I ran Spring Creek on Sunday with a couple of friends. Perfect weather, challenging trail and only about an hour from the house! Are we the luckiest LOST chapter on the planet? You should be able to view the pictures here, just double click on the picture then select "slide show": >You're invited to view these photos online at Kodak Easyshare Gallery! >Just click on View Photos to get started. >http://www.kodakgallery.com/I.jsp?c=wjkvhek.cqzq2gg&x=0&h=1&y=ghresf -Glenn |

I have to sign up to view the photos? Darn it! I have signed up for too many online photo places to view photos....my email box just gets more spam. Glen, if your running of Spring Creek was with personal friends and didn't want any of us to go, I understand. If not, you should have let us in on it. Please check the LOST Rockies posts for weekend runs and post any that you are doing if you'd like any of us to go. We let Ted (from Castle Rock) choose the trail (Bill Moore Lake) and I really enjoyed it. Not sure how he feels about it right now, though. Spring Creek is really close to where Ted wanted to off-road. Not sure how tough it is compared to Bill Moore Lake. |

There are alternate routes through the rock garden. It could be done in a KJ. On Bill Moore I'd be more inclined to believe the 6 rating. It is rated as difficult in the Colorado 4X4 books and 4/5 on Trail Damage. |

hey tokyojoe...that rating has been way off for quite awhile now. here is a good listing of the trail ratings. you can see that bill moore doesnt really measure up to a 6 http://www.4x4trails.net/forums/member.php?action=ratings Skyjump136...the alternate route for the rock garden (bypass) is supposedly closed now by the forest service (which i would agreed with) because it wasnt part of the trail and the last time i was up there, there was quite a bit of damage occuring from people making more and more use of the bypass |

Man, I don't know what some of the grades were on those hills (20*+ wouldn't surprise me at all) so after reading that I'm still guessing a 6/10. There were some serious moguls (took Ted about 5 tries to get up that first big hill), lots of loose rock, and a nice shelf coming up one of the hills. I think that 6/10 rates as a tougher moderate trail and that describes Bill Moore pretty well. It certainly wasn't super difficult, but enough to get the blood pumping in a few spots. |

The rock garden section was the most difficult part of the trail. The Defender and a Rubicon both ended up winching. I went over to the far right section and had a pretty tight squeeze between trees and boulders but I got through. Love the ARB's! Sorry about not posting an invite. It was a very last minute decision to go. Based on my schedule and others most of my runs are very last minute: Have time + Gas + Others with time + Understanding wife to take care of kids = going wheeling! -Glenn PS, I took the kids out to Camp Jeep. I did not bring the KJ since I wanted to save the gas for the mountains. Since I had the kids I did not get to drive anything but the kids had a blast driving the toy jeeps (had to drag them away from those). They are definitely big fans of the Jeep marketing department! |
