Post subject:  UPDATE: Kansas needs a L.O.S.T. home in Colorado

As some of you might remember, Sarah and I were planning to move back to New Mexico this summer. The purpose of our move was to be closer to the solitude, hiking, backpacking, camping, RVing, Jeepin, hunting, exploring, and of course to be closer to the beautiful deserts and magnificent mountains. As confusing as it sounds, we decided to split the difference between family and our love for the wilderness. We still own property at 7,000 feet in New Mexico and perhaps someday might build on it either as a primary residence or second home. Either way, due to teaching jobs and graduate school, we have landed ourselves in Western Kansas (Ulysses) near the Southwest Kansas/Colorado border for several years to come. I noticed that Kansas didn’t fall into the L.O.S.T. MIDWEST CLUB, so I guess maybe,……………just maybe………………the L.O.S.T. Rockies might recognize how discriminated we are in Kansas with no L.O.S.T. club. What do you guys think?

All I can say is that those in KC (Kansas-side) would not want to drive 9 hrs (600+ miles) to the Rockies to off-road.

Remember, you are asking for the entire state to join. Right now we are looking at doing a bit of splitting but that is all talk stage right now. Big states are not very good for joining together. California even split itself. If you want to join LOST Rockies, I don't see any reason not to let you, just because you live somewhere else. I don't think we would add Kansas to the LOST Rockies title though.

Try talking to the other Kansans and see what they think.

What I say is IMHO, not the club's stand.

I don't see us adding Kansas (or any other states). At this time the more likely scenario is that the existing states will split up and form independent clubs. With western states being so big it just makes no sense to have multiple states lumped in to one club. It is hard enough to have joint runs with people that live on the western slope of Colorado let alone out of state. In the past 4 years I can only remember one person coming from NM and another coming from WY...not much reason to have a joint club.

That said...anybody is welcome to come on our club runs and we would be happy to have you. However, if you really want a LOST club in your backyard then get some folks together from your area and start one. You can talk to one of the admins about having a section added and then get busy recruiting people to it.

Don’t worry, I was only joking about Kansas being discriminated against. I agree, there is no way that the entire State of Kansas would want to be part of the LOST ROCKIES. Basically I was just letting you guys know that we are moved now. Ironically, we are closer to Colorado Springs and Denver then if we were living at Timberlake Ranch, New Mexico. Is there any discussion about LOST ROCKIES dividing like California?

I think LOST Rockies will eventually split, but that could be a ways off. Colorado is fairly well organized and Utah is getting there. NM has never really taken off. I think eventually we'll have three seperate clubs...NM, UT, CO. I do not see seperate clubs within CO if that is what you were asking...

Yes, that is exactly what I was asking. I do monitor the Colorado section of the LOST ROCKIES as the involvement seems to be strong. You guys have a lot of good natured people with a heap load of knowledge, enthusiasm, participation, adventure seeking, and most importantly, knowing how to have a good time. I think being part of that facet would be beneficial and enjoyable for all who join and bring something positive to the table.

BTW, I see the admins added a new club section for you. I think it is named Great Plains LOST at my suggestion. Feel free to change the name...I had no idea they would just run with the idea like that!

Hahaha! Good one!

The Kansas-CO border is only ~175 miles from Aurora, CO, but add another 60 to get to where we might be running trails. That is clsoer than Denver people going to Ouray, I think.

As stated earlier, you are more than welcome to join us on runs. You are closer to us than to KC.
