Post subject:  Next Club Meeting or Event?

I saw the Meet and Greet in the thread post below thinking it was for this August. Then by the third page everybody started talking about how good the trail run was……………I was thinking, what the crap??? I then realized it was an old thread start. Anyway, we are moved and located on the Kansas/Colorado Border and looking to see when the next Club Meeting or Outing might be. The wife and I both are teachers and are thinking about making a trip to Colorado Springs within the next few weeks or so. Worse case scenario, we’d like to stop by and say “Hi” to Marty. I figured the Wife might want to MEET the guy who is going to build her front and rear bumpers. Is there a place where you guys post CLUB FUNCTIONS and DATES?
Thanks, Rhett and Sarah

We post them here only.

Marty is the actual party planner. I mean monthly trip/trail planner. We usually hold two sanctioned (LOST Rockies-Colorado) trail runs per month but it is not out of the ordinary if someone wants to do a run on one of the other weekends to post on here to see if there is interest.

Just got a PM from Marty. I’m going to let him know what dates are available for us and move from there. Meeting Marty will be great, meeting anyone else would be an added bonus. We’ll probably be taking the Truck and Travel Trailer, thus eliminating any KJ outings for us. HOWEVER, we’d ride along for a trail run and PAY for a full tank of GAS if anyone wants to show us a trail! The wife has never been to Colorado, so this trip will be awesome. Hope to see you there.

Sure we could hook something up... And I know a Kj begging to be wheeled because its owner has a useless arm and has been neglecting it parking it on the curb  :(

Hey, I know this is LAST minute. But Sarah and I have a window of opportunity to leave this Wednesday night for Colorado Springs and stay until Sunday the 22nd. If anyone is up for a scenic run, or whatever, the WIFE would love you for it. USAFCOP, what did you do to your arm?

We could always run Eagle Rock or China Wall, but most of us are working during the day this week. Saturday, Troy and I will be busy all day with a couple installs, but I'll most likely be firing up the grill Saturday evening. We could probably do an evening run after everyone gets off work. All of my rigs are grounded from the trails right now, so I might have to find a cripple with a slung arm to steal a rig from. An evening run would be cooler in temp anyways.

That would be great Marty. If you could pilot a stolen rig, I think we could ride along....................all gas paid................I'd hate to return a stolen rig with an empty gas tank.

I think Friday evening would be a good time. If I can get my coolant flushed by then, maybe I could take my junk too, but I'm not sure I can get it done with my current work load.

So, which will it be, Eagle Rock or China Wall? They are both about the same drive time to the trail head, kinda. China Wall is about 1hr15mins, but it's an easy drive at highway speeds. Eagle Rock is about 45min to 1hour, and its a windy dirt road right up the side of the mountains, so a little bit more work. I'm basing these times for me and Ted, since we are on the north end of town. China Wall is simpler, lighter built rigs could join us, and its a nice scenic drive. Eagle Rock, well, let's just say, our guest will learn what wheeling in a Liberty is really about. Eagle Rock is the most likely place to break something of the two mentioned trails, and will be more work to fix at night, but parts stores are a little closer. China Wall, less likely to break anything, easier location to fix at night, no parts stores for about 1 hour drive.

What's everyone's thoughts on trail and day/time?

I think Troy has volunteered for an evening run. Sorry we had to twist his arm. Hopefully we can capture a few more off-roaders. Marty, if you want to send me a PM with your address, a contact number, and a time to meet, then Friday or Saturday would be good for us.

So, yeah... I'm down for a run, as I mentioned in email, Marty, Darryl and I were thinking about stopping in Saturday. I would love to run with you guys since no one was available last weekend. Of course both Darryl's Liberty and my Patriot are stock, so we'd need a trail that they could manage. I probably wouldn't mind riding with someone, but we're talking about maybe three bodies (Darryl, Denise and I), plus all those who already need a driver... Couple questions; 1) would the Patriot (same clearance as a stock Liberty) make China (as that seems to be the easiest). I don't mind using my skid plates, just don't have those rockrails yet!!! 2) is there an equally scenic trail that may be a little easier if China isn't stock friendly? I know you guys like to flex and what not, but perhaps a compromise since Darryl and I ran alone last weekend?!?! Saturday evening would probably work better for us, as mentioned, we may stop by Marty's earlier in the day to check out the shop (if approved). That's my $0.02, well... let's make it $0.04.

Did I hear something about a NIGHT RUN? I might be up for a night run since I could squeeze that in between packing for my upcoming deployment.

If it's not more fun for her it might be the last time you get to have fun with her ... so make sure it's a good time for both of you.

China Wall seems to be the most appealing to everyone so far. The Patriot won't make China Wall without rocker and bumper damage, unless Bill is real real lucky. It's a tough call on that one. All the big obstacles have bypasses, but the smaller ones might jump up and get you. I think Darryl's rig should be ok with some good spotting. There is one off shoot that leads off the China Wall trail back out to the highway, that has one heck of a fun obstacle, but there is no way Bill or Darryls rig will survive that one and there is no bypass for it, and you really do miss all the fun if you don't see this obstacle. The upper route of the obstacle, you almost flop and roll down the hill, and the lower route, 6" off to either side and you run a big boulder all the way down the side of you jeep. The lesser built rigs can go back out the China Wall trail to bypass this obstacle, but the group gets completely seperated at that point.

You're just full of bad news, aren't you Marty?!?! I will take your word for it that the Patriot won't make it, but Darryl and I have the same ground clearance, 9". So, it seems like everyone has done China (?) are there any other trails out there for us to concur? I'm not looking for something real easy, just something that maybe Darryl and I can participate in and get some pointers. Like I said, I don't mind using my skids (or the plastic covering the rockers for that matter). Also, at night rocks may jump up at any one of us! Anyway, what about the number of people needing rides? Don't know if you've picked up on it yet, but I really like to go off-roading and don't want to miss out on this opportunity. Hell, I spent all last week installing my CB just for this...

Darryl and I did Kingston Peak last weekend which is rated 3/3 on Trail Damage. I've also done Loch Lomond twice rated at 2/2. We used our skids a couple/few times on Kingston but didn't come across anything that woulda held us back. What does everyone think, can we make a compromise on a slightly, dare I say, easier trail - 3-4? Or is everyone wanting to leave the kids (stockers) at home and get crazy?! *Guilt Trip*

Diesel: If you're interested, maybe we could do a day run too if you guys wanna see some of the countryside. I did part of Mosquito Pass, up to the London Mines, before and no one (girl and her parents) would let me cross the creek there. With Darryl in toe, or another vehicle, we could check that out. It's up by Alma, CO.

I was a little hesitant in saying Darryl's KJ could do China Wall, not realizing they had the same clearance. The Patriot just looks lower I guess. Well, in that case, I would say it would be owner discretion, but expect to hit stuff, but we (Ted, Troy, and I) have gotten pretty good at spotting stockers through stuff they should go through, but you really need to pick a spotter and pay attention to nothing else, because there is no guarantee you will get through everything with or without a competent spotter, but China Wall would be a good trail to find out the limitations of your rigs. We did it in our ZJ with 2" lift and 31's, and didn't hit anything until we took the other route out, so I would say give it a shot. I've said it before on the trail that it would be good for stockers, I guess I'm just being a little paranoid about scratching up those two brand spanking new jeeps, but that's what insurance is for...right? I will say you will NOT want to take the other route out of China Wall. You could come to the big obstacle and watch everyone else just for the fun of watching, but you will have to double back (not far) and go back out the way we came in on China Wall.

China Wall is a lot closer to us in Colorado Springs, which is why we are doing it or Eagle Rock, and being short on time, driving clear up to Idaho Springs or Boulder where the "scenic" stuff is would make a scenic trail pointless in the dark, if you know what I mean. Bill and Darryl will have a little more of a drive, but you would just need to take 285 out of Denver to Jefferson, then down CR77 past Tarryall to FR212. If you mapquest directions, mapquest from your address to Jefferson, then another from Jefferson to Tarryall. If you go Aurora to Tarryall, it takes you a very long route down. Now, if you are planning on hanging out Saturday for a little while, then you can just follow us out there then it doesn't matter, but you would want to go home the shorter way I would think.

Blah, blah, blah. Anyways, so Saturday afternoon/evening at China Wall then? Troy, you want to come over Thursday after work and flush my radiator for me? :D Stacey really wants to go, but doesn't want to be a passenger, and we will have to take the kiddos, so if I can get my junk running, she can drive that and I can chaffeur (sp?) Ted in his KJ.
