Post subject:  Wheeling Run to Yankee Hill Trail Saturday (8/9) 4pm

EDIT: See my post made 8/8 8:20 AM

Well, plans change.

I can now only make run for Saturday (8/2) late afternoon after 4pm...I may be able get out of work at 3pm.

We could meet in Golden on the School of Mines campus where I work.

Still want to go to the Central City area and try Yankee Hill, Pickle Gulch or Russell Gulch....all are fairly easy (rated 3 max on traildamage.com) and would accomodate stock vehicles.

You can see all three near the center of this map near Central City/Blackhawk Map

We might be down... Denise has a friend coming in from Tennessee that would probably want to go. I would love to try Yankee Hill again, we got in to it and then had a sick puppy and had to bail.

We're heading to the Wine Festival in Steamboat Saturday, for some reason I thought this run would be Sunday... We can make it Sunday if anyone wants to go.

The reason I changed my availability for wheeling to Saturday is that my wife was able to get off of work. We have very different work schedules and take any chance we can get to spend a full day together. She doesn't dig the offroading experience very much so I won't be able to do that on Sunday ;) .

Sorry for being flaky.

Still up for this today if anyone wants. Will not go by myself even though trails are relatively easy. Would want to meet at my work parking lot on the school of mines campus a 4pm when I get off. You can see my white Jeep on Google earth at N39.749588 W-105.219946 in the parking lot.

Let me Know.

Looks like Darryl will go...

We found out how expensive the Festival is and are no longer going. We're gonna go to Estes Park and, dare I say, Boulder - GASP! It's okay though, I'm wearing my plaid patchwork shorts and ORGANIC cotton 'stop global warming' shirt.

We wouldn't ming hooking up with you guys after the run somewhere in Golden if you want, around 7-8ish, maybe Woody's?!?!? Give us a call if you're interested, 720-532-6127/8.

Darryl might be responding to my original post I made before I edited it. If you look at the post times he replied about 20 minutes before (or probably while) I was editing my post.

But we haven't heard from him as of yet.

Darryl, did you reply for wheeling on Sunday or Today?

Also, I am supposed to meet up with my wife for dinner around 8...Heh we might end up going to her parents condo in Boulder.

Well this is third try at doing Yankee Hill. It will happen this time. ;)

I will be going up there tomorrow (Saturday 8/9) with a friend of mine from work. We will be leaving from our work parking lot a few minutes after 4pm on the School of Mines Campus in Golden.

If anyone is interested in doing this stock-friendly trail let us know.

Denise doesn't really want to go, but I might. Darryl, you down?

Can you post the location of your work parking lot? Maybe it's there, but I didn't look...

You can see my white Jeep on Google earth at N39.749588 W-105.219946 in the parking lot. The street address is:

USGS Department of the Interior
Nationl Earthquake Information Center
1711 Illinois St
Golden, Colorado
80401

Access to the parking lot is from 18th street on the S side of the building. My coworker has a white 1990 Mitsubishi Montero.

We had a fun time. Trail was more like a 4 (Maybe 4.5) in the more challenging spots and I had an excuse to use my lockers at the top part of Yankee Hill. Worked like a charm. My friend has a 1990 Mitsubishi Montero with 30" street tires that had no problems keeping up. He even got through the part I used my lockers on w/o lockers after a time. Was impressed as I didn't plan on the trail being as challenging as it was.
