Post subject:  Coloraodo Springs peeps - a question
Is there a shop down there that does good work and is nice to deal with? I want to have an ARB installed in the back diff before Moab.

I know there are good shops up here, but they have less than stellar people skills or charge way too much. Wilderness Offroad is great, but basically said they had no interest in working on KJs. Their loss!

Did you look up in Denver? I know High Country 4x4 installs ARB's all the time. Unknown about KJ installs, though they quoted me once for an ARB locker, ARB bumpr, and a few other things.

When I was looking to have my first lift installed they quoted me some rediculous price and I never looked back. Was their quote for the locker reasonable?

johns 4x4 in boulder lifted my kj for a great price and weren't biased about it being a kj.

i have had them work on 2 vehicles. great results both times. there are some other good shops around here as well.

you may want to try asking over on the colo4x4 forums about opinions of northern shops.

Thanks, I'm way closer to C. Springs than any of the Denver shops so that's why I was asking about those. I'll check it out if I don't get any good ideas down this way.

Give Predator a call, here is their web site: www.predator4wd.com

They have never laughed at my KJ nor my ideas... Also their ARB parts (switches) were reasonable, cheaper than online anyway.

If you want to save money, I could help you install the compressor and switches, and have them just install the locker and the air line up to the engine bay or wherever you want to mount the compressor. We could mount it all prior to locker, then they could just hook the airline to the compressor.


Actually, have you asked Rock Lizard if he does ARB's?

How long does the compressor install take? I might do that and a pair of Al's control arms the same day. Help would be MUCH appreciated if you have the time.

FWIW, the last time I talked to Predator (the one on the south side of town) they were actually very interested in doing stuff with the KJ. They even mentioned that they would love to do a rear bumper with a swing-away. The only catch for me at the time was a lack of funds to have anything done (even at a discount).

Hint: I installed the compressor, wiring and switches and had a shop just to the diff work. They quoted me 2 hours and that's about what it took. Rear only. Labor was $70 an hour.

Sean up here had the front done and regrets not taking off the skids first as they charged him time and grunt factors for the privelege.

Joel, the pump and wiring is pretty straight forward, It all depends on where you want your pump mounted took my dad and I about 3 hours including cutting the dash for the switches, and making a bracket for the pump.

When you get it, give me a call, I could come up there, or you could come down here, all depends on who has the best assortment of tools. And we could pull the trailer out, and I think your Jeep should fit in the garage.

I would help you out, but believe it or not, axles are still a new trick for me that I need to learn and study a lot more, plus, I don't have the facilities at this time to feel comfortable doing it right. Are you getting gears too? Be a dang good time to do it, since they have to set the gears on the ARB anyways.

I won't do gears until a SFA swap comes out and I can trash that front diff. I'm only putting the ARB in the rear. To be honest, this will be about it for my KJ as far as performance mods go. Still interested in that bumper though...

If you want to do a rear first, My rear cover will be off Friday... Wanna start quoting metal prices???

Front cover may come off too if my front reciever shows up Friday or you can pursuade me on a front bumper :roll:

If you can come by sometime Friday during the day, we can take some measurements and I can get you some prices on steel. Only prices I have right now is on tubing. Sheet steel I don't have prices on, but it won't take long for me to call and get some prices. Where and who do you have building/welding this up for you?

I would be happy to help, because it would be helping me to get stuff built which will help out the other KJ guys. I did get some quotes today from two of the manufacturers I sent plans to. One manufacturer hasn't given firm quotes, but he gave me a rough idea on the XJ bumpers. The other company gave me solid quotes since they had a week to work on them, and they are twice as much as what I was paying in KS, so they won't get my business. They are an hour away too, so I don't want to drive that far twice a week. The other company is here is town, and they are more expensive than what I was paying buy not anywhere near as much as the other place. The place here in town looks promising so far, and they have a waterjet that can cut my HDPE. If I get some final measurements on the KJ, and I set up with this manufacturer very soon, I can probably have KJ bumpers ready in less than six months, depending on the quality of this manufacturer and how many prototypes I have to go through before I am happy with the design for production.

Well, I will call you once I get the rear cover off. Will hopefully be early afternoon, in the morning I have to tow an old M37 down to the shed at work, then I am off until the 3rd of January.
