Summary:
We are going to meet at
IHOP in American Fork at
8 am on Saturday, August 27, for breakfast. We can hang out there for a while, and then those who would like to spend the day up American Fork Canyon will head up the trail to Forest Lake, and then Mineral Basin.
Trail to Forest Lake: Would probably be rated a 3.5 in Moab. Probably doable in a stock KJ, but fairly difficult. Recovery points (tow hooks) required, and full skids highly recommended. Lift and rear locker will allow you to complete the trail without help, but we'll have straps.
Trail to Mineral Basin: 4 or 4+ by Moab scale. No way a stock KJ would make it without serious damage. Lift, full skids, and recovery points required. Rear locker very helpful. Even with all of those mods we'll probably need to pull out the straps to get everyone across the Rock Garden. But the reward is
spectacular scenery, and bragging rights.
There will probably be some empty seats if anyone would like to ride shotgun. I plan to take at least my two boys (5 and 7), and hopefully my wife will come with our 2 year-old girl.
Even if you can't hit the trails with us, I hope you'll meet us for breakfast and claim your free LOST Rockies decal!

Original message:
Hey, we're getting a pretty good list of SLC-area KJ owners now...how about getting together for breakfast and a quick run up AF Canyon one of these Saturday mornings?
My thought is that we could have breakfast at 7 or 8 am at the Denny's at I-15 and 10600 South (early so that Krazz1e can be there...he works on Saturdays). We can hang out there for a while and talk about mods, and people smarter than me can answer any technical questions

. And then those of us who want to add some custom pinstripes to our KJs can run up to Forest Lake. (Then the more adventurous could head up to Mineral Basin.)
The Forest Lake trail is somewhat challenging this year, but I think a stock KJ can make it (with skillful driving and spotting). (I did most of it all by myself, but my KJ is modded a bit.)
Thoughts? If Denny's still has their Grand Slam breakfast for under $3, it would be a cheap get-together, and fairly centrally-located.
I'll even throw in a LOST Rockies decal for everyone that shows up! (Don't worry, I'll true up the accounts so that the LOST Rockies treasury doesn't take the hit.

)
I'd probably drag my boys along (5 and 7), so feel free to bring your kids if you like.
