I have been "lurking" around the site for awhile and finally signed up. I figured since I just put on my LOST Rockies decal I should start posting up. I am moving to Colorado the first week of January to work in Denver so I am getting pretty pumped to move. My biggest question now is where should I move? Any suggestions? I am into shooting, hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, snowmobiling and once I get out there I plan on finally doing some Jeepin (there isn't much availability here in northern Illinois except mud). So I would like to be within a 45min drive from Denver where I have access to all/most of those activities. I will be renting for the first 6 months and then start looking for a house.

Thanks for all the great info and I can't wait to finally start participating. As far as my Jeep goes, it's a 04 Rocky Mountain edition; silver, sunroof, tinted, Jeep logo seats, hitch, K&N, 12" sub, just switched to Mobil 1...and soon to be lifted with exhaust.

You should think about all the driving you will do to get to work. Traffic is bad like any big city. Do you want to spend your life in traffic jams (high gasoline costs) but live close to awesome areas or not deal with a lot of driving stress (and gas costs) and live close to work? If your work is close to the awesome mountains, then you have it all!!!
Let us know which way you'd rather deal with and we can give you better ideas.

Where to live? Well my opinion is biased but, I would live on the west side of town. I live in one of the western burbs and love it. If you spend a lot of time in the mountains, it is nice to be so close. It's about 40 minutes to the Continental Divide, less than an hour to Winter Park, and 12 minutes to downtown Denver. Plus lots of trees compared to the eastern areas. Again just my feelings about where I like.

I drive in Chicago so traffic will be a breeze, lol. I lived in Washington, DC this summer as well so I think the traffic won't be a major issue. I am working on the 1200 block of Speer Blvd, if that gives you all a better reference point. For the 6 months I am renting I would like to be close to snowmobiling more than anything. I am looking at Mountain Cat sleds allready. I need storage as well for my motorcycle and snowmobile so I would like to rent something (a house or cabin preferably) with a garage. I will be traveling a lot too so I guess my commute to the airport is an issue as well.

From which direction is traffic the worst? Where will it be easy to find a house to rent? I am coming to Denver around Thanksgiving to look at places. If anyone knows of a place that is or will be for rent let me know. I am young with no wife and/or kids so I don't need a mansion, just something with at least one bedroom and a garage. I can telecommute so that is a plus too. I also have flex scheduling so I can have Fridays off. I have a lot of vacation time and holidays as well so I will have a lot of free time to enjoy all of the aforementioned activities.

BTW, I just had my Flowmaster 40 series welded on and it sounds awesome. It has a great rumble at idle and it doesn't have the interior noise as most people say. At least now I have a sound to let me know that the engine exists.

Speer Blvd is quite a ways up there. My upright bass lessons are at my teacher's house near Lincoln/Broadway North. Speer is a couple streets down from his place...it takes me about 45 minutes to get there, leaving Castle Rock every Thursday at 4:00 PM. The drive back is 45-60 minutes, depending on traffic. I'd say you need to plan on doing at least an hour long drive back and forth each day, and that's if you don't go and leave during traffic. If you try to come home at 5 or 6, expect at least 90 minutes for your drive. The highway traffic is the biggest time waster; going from Castle Rock to Perry Park is only 20 minutes.

BTW I never use I-25 anymore. I have before, and I've been way late to my bass lessons. I use Hwy 85/Santa Fe. Slow and sure, at 55 MPH, I'm never late anymore. I gave I-25 a shot one last time recently, and I was late again, sure enough! I hate I-25.
