Hey all you Albuquerque area KJers, I have a question for you. How do you get out into the Rio Puerco to go wheeling? I have tried with a friend to get down into the valley by going out west of Rio Rancho but there are no trespassing signs all along the road. Do you guys go in from I-40 out by the casino? Thre are some geocaches that I'd like to get to but I want to be sure I don't have to go onto private land to do it.

Get on sourthen in Rio Rancho and keep heading west, and west. Eventually it turns into a drit road for 2 miles and then in to an offroad area. I'll post a map and coordinates later.

Hey Ed, did some looking around and found two posible routes into the valley. Here is a screen grab from Google Earth; the two routes are marked in blue. I think the one you are talking about is the one on the left. I have seen this one when I was out there a couple of weeks ago but wasn't sure it went all the way down into the valley. The route on the right is one I got from another geocacher and looks like it might be a bit easier. Let me know if this is not the correct area. The offroad area you talk about should be the area circled in green, just west of the abandoned microwave tower.

Thanks Eddo. The coordinates you posted are denoted by the yellow circle, so I'm guessing that you guys took one of the two routes shown. I'll try one of them when I get some time, maybe this weekend. If I get out there I'll post a list of coordinates for anyone who has a GPS.

OK, I had a chance to go out to the area today and got coordinates for the two entrances. Also saw a bunch of vehicles going out the south route; couple of TJs and even a Suburban. Now to get down into the valley. Heres a composite with images of the two entrances and the coordinates for each. Anyone up for a run out this way sometime?

I will be up for a run sometime in March, hopefully, I will have sliders and a locker installed by then.

Did you ever get the sliders installed on your jeep?

My spring break is March 11-19 and I was thinking taking my Jeep to the shop on Tuesday to get my locker installed. I dunno if I will have any other plans besides that.

I got the sliders (boulderbars) installed, but I do need to get a couple of bolts in that I didn't have time to drill holes for. I'll be out of town the weekend of the 11th-12th, but the next weekend looks good barring any weather complications. If we can't get a run together maybe we can do the meet-n-greet that weekend. I'll post over on the 'NM meet and greet' thread as well.

Hey, sorry, I didn't follow up on doing anything this weekend. I was sick last week and the week before (102.5 degree temp and pneumonia, thought I was going to die) and have been playing catchup over spring break.

Also, I think my ball joints are going, but hopefully the dealership will cover it under warranty.

Maybe we can go out and do something not next weekend, but the following weekend.
