Post subject:  Front Range Trail Run - 3/4/06 (Poll Added)
Let's have some suggestions on some easy, lower elevation trails that might currently be passable (read: less than a foot of snow). I think it would be fun to get out in the next couple weeks especially since we have some newer folks that seem interested in going. I'm thinking trails just outside of C. Springs and Boulder might be good options at this point. Think "scenery" instead of rock crawling and climbing. :D

Here are a few...
Rampart Range Road
Old Stage Coach
Sugarloaf Mountain
Switzerland Trail

You should be able to find descriptions of each trail at www.4x4trails.net

Edit: Also if you don't have trail suggestions but would like to attend please chime in and say so. The March 4th date is completely tentative at this point so if another weekend works better tell us! Thanks.

I'm up for anything! I finally made it back and need to get the Jeep trained up or my MOAB trip. I've never done Sugarloaf or Switzerland so those would be my first choices but, like I said earlier, I'm up or anything.

Count me in. For once, our unit is having Guard weekend on the second weekend of the month during March so I am free that first weekend.

If it is near the springs, then I could probably go. Saturdays are kinda tough for me since the wife works til 4:00 and I am usually stuck with the kids. I'll just have to see, but I'm not too sure right now. I should have some sliders for you guys that were wanting them or already paid for them so you can take them out that weekend. Incase you guys that were wanting sliders having read the updated post in the slider thread, I changed the mounting design to make it easier for me to make, and much stronger of a mounting design.

It would have to be real easy trail for me to go unless I ride with Rock lizard if he is driving his heap...

My Junk is tore up, and I have no recovery points until the bumpers are done. :roll:

Recovery points are over rated. We could always pull from the front axle...oh, wait, you don't have one of those either. :twisted:

I voted for Switzerland Trail, but we could easily do Sugarloaf instead, or we could do both. They are right next to each other.

The Wife and I did parts of Switzerland, but ran out of time and didn't have a good enough map for me to feel comfortable doing it on our own. Granted this was before all of the recent snow, but it wasn't bad at all. Trail was snow covered, but very much passable.
Here's a picture of one of the spurs and what was the worst of the snow we saw at that time. We hiked this section, but it obvious that someone had been over it recently.

I just bought the 2nd Edition (NOT Vol #2) of the "Guide to Colorado Backroads & 4-Wheel Drive Trails" and none of those you have listed are in it, except Rampart Range.

The book lists some new trails in the Castle Rock area and I am not sure their exact location (high or low altitude):

Balanced Rock Road - leads to Palmer Lake
Schubarth Road - looks like it does go up in altitude - crosses into Air Force territory

I am really open to try anything. I'll let the newer guys make the decision.

I found Old Stage Road, but no Old Stage Coach AND it isn't listed as a trail with info in the new book, just listed on a map.

The new book still doesn't give info on it. Just lists the name of the road on the map. Nothing more.
