I am planning on driving to the great state of MO in early July.

I would either be living Seattle and taking I90 all the way east (the original idea)

OR-

Headed south to visit some family in Portland, then East. If I go the second route, I would be travelling over to Salt Lake city. here, I could either head south a little go through Provo (more family) and then east to Denver and through KS.

Is that route going to be bad for any reasons? Google maps puts it at an hour longer than if I east from Salt Lake area though WY and Nebraska.

My wife and I are looking for the safest route, best road/weather conditions, frequent services. I've only flown over the Rockies, so any and all help would be nice!

You'll be taking US 6, statistically the most dangerous road in the country. I don't worry because I have mad skillz.

Either should be fine, but the north route got some snow today in yellowstone according to the national news.

Snowbird announced that it will extend the season until July 4... stupid global warming.

Wow, snow?

Topographically, the route through CO looks like I would more mountain pass/hills/winding roads, VS going through WY. Is either a commerical truck route? Here in WA there is one MAJOR route over the mountains, a few more two lane routes

Pretty sure that you're over thinking this, but I do acknowledge that it's consistent with LOST traditions.

both 90 and 80 are major truck routes, or drop down to 70. either will be easy my friend.

Wow, the rocky mountain pass wasn't a big deal at all. Guess I over thought it... Going through northern ID from spokane, into montana, was steeper for sure. Thanks for the route advice though :)

Now you're under-thinking; those are The Rockies too. Rocky Mountain states include: UT, ID, MT, WY, CO & NM. They also stretch into Canada where they're known as "The Canadian Rockies". Just sayin'

Yep, but I thought the UT, CO area of the rockies had higher elev, therefore steeper roadways...
