Hey, guys. Read quickly through the recent thread about getting this club going. what do you guys say we get together the third or fourth weekend this month, hit a trail, have some lunch, have a little meeting to go over the bylaws and what not and get this thing going. We've been kinda beating around the bush to get this thing organized. Let's get together, have some fun, and pick some temporary chairholders until we can have an official election and what not. We're getting more and more people interested in wheeling their Liberty's, so let's give them a club to turn to for inspiration. Chad (fish_eye) and I went to a local 4x4 meet and greet last weekend and met two people with KJ's ready to build their rigs and get on some trails. I know some of you guys are starting to get your rigs outfitted with some new gear So, throw some ideas out here and let's get something going. My idea is meet reasonably early (0900), say at my house, caravan to Eagle Rock, play around til about 1400, head back to my place, I'll fire up the grill, we'll eat some steak, potatoes, burgers, brats, beers, etc., and talk about getting this club going. I have plenty of unused space in my house to set up some tables and chairs and get down to business. |

Hidden Valley is a road, with private property all around. At some point it says "continue at your own risk", due to lots of wash-outs, but I don't think it's really a trail. I will ask my friends around here at the Rock about it, I'm sure I can find something out. Our best bet for trails (in this area) that would be do-able and fun for KJ owners, lifted and stock, would be Dakan Road or Rampart Range road, which are both with 10 minutes of Hidden Valley Road (south and north, respectively). Dakan connects to Rampart Range Road eventually through forest trails, but it takes quite some time. I personally have yet to go all the way up Dakan, and have never even been on Rampart Range. Eagle Rock sounds good, too, if we want to do something more difficult...much more difficult compared to either the trails mentions above. |

I have recovery points now, So I want to do Eagle Rock! But if we have more stockers show, we could always just run up Rampart Range RD, it is real easy, but pretty drive, and there are off shoots to play on right Joel As for getting the club going, Let's do it!! I will print out more copies of the by-laws and bring them, and we can get Colorado Going. The bylaws will work for all 3 states, and each state can have their own "House Rules" To add or detract what their part of the members see fit. But on NATIONAL LOST ROCKIES RUNS, we will all have to follow the same rules. If you want a better Idea and a say, come to the meeting. |

I am a newbie to the Liberty and this forum, but have done a lot of 4wheeling in the area through the years. I had a new 1975 CJ, 1984 Bronco II and a 1996 big Bronco. I have been busy raising a family for the last 18+ years, but my kids are now in college and would love to get back on the trails. I am pretty well stock but do have the off road package on my 2006 Sport. I would like to attend some of the club functions and possibly Ouray this summer or Moab next year. Please post your meeting locations, dates and times and I will try to attend. I would love to see L.O.S.T. Rockies succeed and become a strong club. |

If I remember right Rampart is just a long dirt road. We can do better then that. Several years ago I did Red Cone in a stock CJ. |

I just ran Hidden Valley a few weeks ago in the KJ with some friends. It's a short road, but a good time. I could only recommend it to people in southern Denver, Castle Rock, and Monument though because others will be disappointed in the wheelin'-time vs. driving-time. Slaughterhouse Gulch may be the next best thing after Eagle Rock/Saran Wrap. I too love Red Cone though, so it should stay on the list. I'll post pics of the Hidden Valley trip when I find them. -Bryan Some pics, as promised:

Red Cone is fun, not quite as rough as Eagle Rock, but it is closed until about mid June last I heard a few days ago. When's Memorial Day weekend? I know first weekend of the month is out for some guys that have Guard duty. How close is Hidden Valley to Deckers? I was just up in Deckers today scoping out the old fishing hole. What road is it on? Bryan, got your email by the way. Give me a call sometime this week to help clarify what you are talking about on the guard. |

I've never been on Rampart myself, but I've heard from others that it's got decent spots, and Joel and Ted told me there is some interesting spots, at least. Jackson Creek Rd., accessible from Highway 105/Perry Park Rd, will take you to Hidden Valley Rd. on the right if I remember correctly. TTU_TJ, does the road eventually turn into the trail? I remember a friend talking about getting stuck back there, but he didn't say it was a trail, and a trail write-up on 4x4trails.net mentioned the road as an alternate route to Pike National forest, other than Dakan, which leads right up to it. |

This weekend and the weekend of 26-27 May are the only weekends that will not work for me right now. As for good spots on Rampart... Those were offshoots I believe |

After passing the public stream crossing (approx location of trailhead), the road is rutted and a little rough until it intersects with Dakan Rd (approx location of trail end). Open the Google Earth placemarks attached above for the GPS location of each. |

The 20-21 weekend is no good for me, I'll be on a trip. I am good for anything from the 26-29, remember, Memorial Day will give many people a 3 day weekend, so that's something to think about. I'll do my best to make whatever date we decide on, as long as I am in town, it shouldn't even be an issue. And I'm sure I'll have some skink sliders by then too...(Thanks Marty!) |

27, 28, and 29 are the Memorial Day weekends dates. So, Monday is the 29th. I think Saturday morning would be great. This way, you don't interfere with people that go to church on Sundays and Monday is a nightmare with traffic and everyone returning home. I like the idea of starting a trail early and finishing early enough to sit back with a few cold beverages and have a cookout and work on organizing the club. |

My place is always open for cookouts if we decided on a CO springs trail. Memorial Day weekend does sound pretty good. If we can all decide on that weekend, then we just need to figure out where, and what we want to grill up. |
