Post subject:  Anybody from Lea County?

Hey, my family is moving to SE New Mexico/West Texas in a few weeks. I will be working in Hobbs, and I am debating which side of the boder to live on. I would love to hear from any of the New Mexico members familiar with the area.

Thanks,

Welcome, and good luck with the move. It doesn't really matter which side of the border you live on, they're both equally flat. That part of the state is known as the 'Llano Estacado' (staked plain) because when people were first coming across it they would drive stakes into the ground every so often to mark routes - there aren't too many viable landmarks. I grew up down that part of the state (Carlsbad and Ft. Sumner) and can tell you that it is referred to by most other New Mexicans as 'Little Texas'. If I recall correctly Texas doesn't have a state income tax so that may help with the decision. Cheers!

Yeah, the income tax thing is the major reason we were thinking Texas, but it all depends on property tax differences at this point.

Well it looks like I will be in hobbs full time on July 9th. I am excited about getting out of California, and trying something new. It would be really coold to find some LOST members down there, but it doesn't look likely judgin by the hits on this thread.
