Post subject:  Some Facts

Al and I are not stepping down and that is why there has been no posting on this.

The ROTM has been taken over by W3CSX because of the limited time that I have and I could not keep up with it. He has also been given moderator status. If you need anything dealing with posting you can refer to him.

The Mid-Atlantic website was run by Tallon 1 and when he moved he had left the website up as a favor to us. I have tried to contact him through p.m and the phone. He cannot be contacted. So this website may be lost and I am more of a structural engineer than an I.T.

Al has been in contact with skrracing and he has inquired about breaking up the Mid-Atlantic into a smaller area. This was requested by 02Liberty before and I fought to keep it as one. Well I can say that this thought has been changed and I think P.A. is large enough to have its own lost group. It takes 6 hours to drive across the state. So if one of you PA members would like to start it up just contact skrracing and get the ball rolling.

I wanted to wait until I got all the ducks in a row to make an announcment and ask the MA LOST group to take a vote on a course or action. One of the things we have been discussing is to:

Make a Pa. Lost, due to a large membership base and a large territory
MA LOST members than would be Va. WV, Del. and Maryland.
I would like to link NJ to NY and create a Metro LOST. I have contacted NE and started discussions.

Pleaase let me know your thoughts. Here is a post I wrote a while back.

Time is a fleeting thing, and with me, as I have done in the past must say I am sorry for not being there all the time. With Jeepin By Al and the new job, inventing the lift, and just general life it has been difficult. I believe that Tammy and Joe has taken much of the slack up from the two top slackers and have done a great job.

I just got back (well at 4:00) today from picking my son up at his Summer Camp at college in Vermont. Another day that has just passed by.

As you can see this organization needs all your help to run efficiently.

I have now been President for almost a year (or has it been longer?) A lot of things have happen over this past year, we L.O.S.T. key members and friends. We made a lot of new ones.

Do any of you think it may be time to hold new elections??? I will always be a part of this L.O.S.T. Group. It has grown into a part of my life I am not going to give up anytime soon.

Thoughts?

This was presented in the reps section of MA lost. Take moment and think about this and decide if it time for a new direction. A poll maybe good.

Hey Chris edit your post to include a poll Stay the Course or New Direction. meaning for a new election, and rearranging the group. If everyone likes the idea of rearranging the group, I will pursue more.

Thanks

Al

I have been here since the inception of the Mid-Atlantic group. I too fought to keep the group as is when it was suggested earlier that it be split up. My thoughts have also changed a bit on the subject. However, I'm not sure a full split is necessary. I thought Al and Chris were going in the right direction when they were talking about having representatives from each state. There are only a few places in the Mid-Atlantic to go wheeling. So the way I was thinking on this subject was that each of the states could have a sort of sub-chapter that would organize their own "local" events such as meet and greets, install parties, picnics and such so that other states members wouldn't feel left out if they couldn't drive the longer distance to get there. Of course they would still be welcome to come if they want to. Then as a larger group we would plan wheeling trips for all the states members since there are such few places to go that everyone usually has to drive a couple hours to get to Paragon, Rausch or GWNF. Of course the "sub-chapters" could also plan wheeling trips too. Then the larger group trips could be the bigger events like the big two day trip to GWNF with the picnic and bonfire at the campground. The biggest problem I see with a full split is do we have enough active members from each area to still get together in person and do stuff. I know we probably have over a hundred people registered on the MA forum, but how many are just web wheeelers and how many come out to meet other members in person? If the decision ends up being that we split, someone should then go through the member rolls and figure out how many active members we have from each area before it becomes final. And new elections for each new chapter should be done before the split so that each area can hit the ground running, so to speak.

I could be wrong of course but that's my $.02 on the issue.

PA is a weird bird. I, in NEPA, am closer to the North_East guys the the MA guys. Someone in Pitt would be closer to MA or MW than they are to me. kinda sucks when trying to assign it a division, or even making one of it's own. An event near Pitt would eliminate most of the eastern PA people in a PA LOST group.

Can PA be split? Eastern PA can get sucked into the NE group, western PA into Mid-West group?

If the Mid Atlantic chapter spliters apart, can I be the King of the Virgina Beach Chapter  . Just kidding about the King stuff. Heck, I only live a few miles from North Carolina so why should I want to be the King of Va Beach when I can mess with Dean.

Anyway, bickering gets us no where. Healthy discussions yes, bickering no. So I vote bicker between yourselves via PMs and leave the healthy discussions public.

I tried but somehow my PM ended up out here anyhow.

Dean would love that! If PA wants to split, thats fine with me. Its hard for me to justify driving 6.5 hours to Paragon to make a meet and greet or a monthly run. I would like to have more runs around us (Va, Wva, Md, De) so that I can actually attend them and not have to empty my wallet on gas.

Richard, you have to empty your wallet on gas? Oh, that's right YOU DON"T HAVE A CRD LOL. Naw, I know what you mean. The last time I went to Shoe Creek with the Va Beach Jeepers all of the TJ'ers spent $50.00 on fuel (and that was the first first stop). My poor little old CRD took all of 21 Bones.

However, it would be nice not having to travel 6 hours just to M & G and/or play. I don't think the Mid-Atlantic region needs to split. We just need a few more options when it comes to activites. For example, those in Richmond's neck of the woods could get together every 2 or 3 months and go wheeling or eat chicken wings at Hooters. Those in the PA, NJ or DE could do the same. Then once ever 6 months have a cental "main" get together. Oh, I don't know something along the lines of a Spring Crawl and a Fall Crawl at GWNF.

As for the officers, everyone does have lives and everyone has responsibilites outside of the LOST. They stepped up to the plate and I thank the past, present and future officers. After all, they must like what they are doing because the pay kinda of sucks.

Wow, a little emotion and drama here! Hopefully that is out of everyone's system! And of course I have to throw in my two cents.

I am of two minds here and totally undecided. I can understand the reasons for splitting the group up - we do cover a large geographical area and attending events can mean a long drives and lodging therefore limiting the number of folks who can attend. At the same time, I know we rarely get more than an handful of people at any of our planned events and if we split the group, we will have even fewer people to pull from.

I've been involved in enough volunteer organizations to realize that there is always a small group of leaders and participants to keep it going and everyone else shows up when there is something happening that interests them. In a group like this, where we don't even meet face to face, it is all the more difficult. It appears to me as if our whole group is a little "lost" and needs to be refocused.

Al and Chris - I'm glad you are not stepping down, you both have skills and experience we need. However, I think the group needs one or both of you to step up to the leadership role just a little more. I'm not being critical here, and I fully understand demanding jobs and long commutes. I start back to working six days a week an hour away from home next week. I guess I'm just hoping that you two can get together as a team and keep us coordinated and moving forward because right now we're all over the place. I'm afraid members might be losing interest and new ones who read stuff like the top of this thread might go find some place else to be.

Are there areas where we can concentrate our efforts? What type of events get the most participation? Can we hold meet and greets in more than one location at a time, or more often in various locations? Is the idea of regionalizing and having regional reps a valid solution? What successful activities are other LOST groups doing?

I'm getting long here, so I'll stop. I just want to see the group be a great place to do jeep stuff and make friends along the way.

Thanks,
Sharon

WHAT WOULD BE WRONG WITH A STATE BY STATE CHAPTERS OF L.O.S.T.
IT WOULD BE EASIER FOR MEMBERS TO MEET ON A MONTHLY BASIS AND NOT PUT STRESS ON MEMBER THAT LIVES FAR FROM A MEET AND GREET OR A TRAIL RUN.

PA L.O.S.T
NJ L.O.S.T
VA L.O.S.T
DEL L.O.S.T, ETC, ETC

AND WE CAN ALL STILL BE PART OF THE MID ATLANTIC CHAPTER OF L.O.S.T
WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS? I WOULD BE INTERESTED IN HELPING OUT WITH NJ L.O.S.T OR WHAT EVER THE GROUP DECIDES

Maybe I'm missing the point because I dont really expect much from LOST as a "club". What exactly are is the power struggle over? We all are into our KJ's for some reason or another, but is this really over geography or is this more over wanting to be more of a social club over a wheeling club? Personally, I enjoy seeing what my KJ can do on trails. LOST was an integral part of mod research, and Chris and Al were present at all the monthly runs I made. They happen to be at RC or PAP since I live in NJ and that as close I can get. I'd like to make a M&G or show if it works out, but my primary purpose of being here is to wheel my KJ. Chris and Al were an integral part of all those experiences. Their contributions shouldnt be discounted and nor should their time at the helm be portraited as a failure because someones expectations of this club havent been met.

first off SORRY for prying but you guy's seem to be falling apart alittle & I don't like seeing it,I'd like to make a suggestion from your niebhoring NE section :)

Our section is just as big as yours differance is you guy's are more active with more places to wheel & such anyways why can't you guy's stay together as a whole ( on the site) but divide yourself's up into a north/south region or east/west region draw a line down/across the middle & appoint people to be incharge of that region & you could keep your president the same to over see everything as a whole I believe it could work just my .02

WE have a simuilar problem with people who won't travel too far but we eventualy all meet up at some point in time,I'm just trying to help :)
