Has anyone had any camping experience in the GWNF? I'm looking for a recommendation on campsites (prefer primative, or perhaps secluded sites at a campground) near the ORV trails.

There are three spots on Kephart Run the my local club uses all the time. We usually stay in the first clearing as it is large and has a large fire ring.

You can also camp at Flag Pole and Meadow Knob, flag pole being easier to access as it is closer to the road and have seen PT Cruisers and a 40' Land Yacht there.

We always tend to do flag pole backwards from another road, not the access road from 33. Would be a nice campsite in the summer, could be nice now, but prepare for temps to be pretty cool as Flag Pole is at about 4000'.

You can camp with us at the Brandywine campground which is past the trailhead and just over the WV border. If you need further info, George has stayed here and can fill you in.

Hey DoverKj, I've heard about Kephardt run but I don't know where this trail starts. I'd like to explore it sometime. Could you give me directions to the trailhead?

The trail head is right on Route 33. After you past the sign the says Welcome to George Washington Nation Forest the trail starts right before you go over a small bridge. There is a small green sign that says Kephart Run on the right at the trail head.

When I go out the the Jeep later, I am at work right now, I will look on the map and give you a better estimate on how far in to the forest it is. Very easy to find, not more than a few minutes down 33 once you past that welcome sign.
