I am not aware of any State Parks in N.J. that allow motorized vehical access, I may be wrong but I did not see anything on the site that mentioned it. Perhaps there is a permit that allows groups to use the trails. Tom. |

Just think if there was a PA/NJ L.O.S.T. no one outside of that area would know about this place |

Is this the same as Pine Barrens? I've heard that people wheel Pine Barrens but it's a lot of deep mud because of the cranberry fields nearby. |

Most likely the only place to truly go "off-Road" in N.J. Several large State Parks make up the Pine Barrens. Wharton being the largest at 114,000 acres. I think every year, our brothers at Jeep Jamboree have a Jeep Jam in the spring when the trails are flooded and most challenging. I attended my first Jeep Jam this year in May. Hoping to meet other Jeep Riders and KJ owners. To my suprize, I was the only KJ. With no lift kit and stock tires, I think I did OK. Stuck several times but was there to pull one YJ out. The Jeep Jam was a great way to test your limitations and experience Jersey's best Off Roading! Start out at Basto Village Park Headquarters (maps, info) near the town of Hamilton. Not all trails are open to public. A very sensitive and fragile environment, the Pines. The Jeep Jam organizers and local 4x4 clubs like the Jersey-Devils, Iron in the Pines, to name a couple, are well respected by the local State Park Police. There is a need to protect what we have in this state. No ya-hoo's needed on these trails. So... who's interested? I'll go. Shift work bites, have more time off during the week. |
