GLOUCESTER, Virginia – September 20, 2008 – As our name implies, the Rock Crawlers for the Preservation of Future Access (RCPFA) is a Virginia based organization committed to preserving both public and private lands to continued off-road vehicle access. Formed in 2007, RCPFA seeks to establish a strong presence in the Mid-Atlantic region.

In and around the Washington, DC metropolitan area, which includes Maryland and Virginia, four-wheeling locations are extremely limited to say the least. Besides privately owned land, the only local and legal four-wheeling is considered, by most, to be the George Washington National Forrest (GWNF) (www.fs.fed.us/r8/gwj/recreation/ohv/index.shtml) near Harrisonburg, Virginia. Avid four-wheelers looking to up the ante and seeking further excitement than that offered by the simple fire-roads of the GWNF are left with Big Dogs Off-road (www.bigdogsoffroad.com) in Gore, Virginia which is only opened for a handful of annual events and Crozet, Virginia a property maintained by RCPFA. Other than these limited locations, those of us actively wishing to pursue our four-wheeling adventures are forced to travel to distant points North and South to such places as Rausch Creek Off-Road Park (www.rauschcreekoffroadpark.org) in Tremont, Pennsylvania and Uwharrie National Forest (www.cs.unca.edu/nfsnc/recreation/uwharrie/index.htm) in Troy, North Carolina. Other hotspots such as Paragon Adventure Park (www.paragonap.com), also in Pennsylvania and Upper Tellico located in the Nantahala National Forest near Murphy, North Carolina have been besieged by environmentalists/corporations and continue to be challenged. (Please help save Tellico, visit www.sfwda.org to learn more.)

Crozet, Virginia is located near the University of Virginia and serves as RCPFA’s primary base of operations. It consists of roughly 100 acres of private land which is maintained by RCPFA. Its location, approximately 80 miles west of Richmond, Virginia, is sufficiently centralized for wheeling events in and around the area. In their continued efforts to attract a solid base of membership to help provide a unified voice, RCPFA offers guided four-wheeling to non-members wishing to become actively involved in both legal and responsible off-roading as well as securing our sports future. Not limited by specific vehicle make requirements, our membership is comprised of a vast array of vehicle makes and models, truggies and buggies and is represented by practically every local 4x4 club.

As the former home of VROC (Virginia Rockcrawling & Offroad Challenge), RCPFA is trying to disassociate Crozet from its hardcore past. With its increased membership and their subsequent needs, RCPFA is continually modifying existing trails while routinely blazing new ones. Once simply categorized as Blue (intermediate), Black (hard), or Red (extreme), the trails have been further categorized to help drivers differentiate accordingly. Soon to be clearly labeled trails now include Low, Middle, and Upper Blues, Low & Upper Blacks, and Reds for those mentally challenged, extreme rock crawlers exhibiting suicidal tendencies with no regard for their vehicle's preservation.

While Crozet is no longer open to the public, RCPFA has aquired exclusive permission to utilize the property. The Crozet property is private property and is NOT open to the public (non-members) without approval from the RCPFA Board of Directors (BOD). Membership however, does have its privileges. For a $25.00 annual membership fee, members are not only permitted but strongly encouraged to sponsor trail rides and wheeling events. As a member of RCPFA, you are permitted to bring as many "riding" guests as your vehicle can safely accomodate (all vehicle occupants must have a seat and safety restraint). There are NO SPECTATORS ALLOWED at any wheeling event.

So how does one join RCPFA? Well it’s easy, the only prerequisite is that you enjoy four-wheeling. Simply visit us on the web at www.rcpfa.com and peruse the site anonymously or better yet, we encourage you to feel free to register and post in our forums. When you’re ready, you can either solicit a member for a vacant seat or sign-up for one of our Open Wheeling events. Out of excuses? Once you have paid your membership dues and have received a positive member referral, you’re in! How simple is that? Once a member, you can turn around and refer your family, friends, and other club affiliates.

So what are you afraid of? Trust us, we've heard all the stories, that's why we’re extending you this invitation to visit our website to learn more about the "new Crozet." We're simply asking for you to come out and wheel with us before forming an opinion.

For more information regarding RCPFA, visit the club's website at www.rcpfa.com.
