Well, since LOST is back up let's have a welcome back run up to GWNF on either 22 or 23 Nov or both.

I can get a couple of guys from the ship to go. That and I really need to get the lift out on some trails. I've had it out on the beach but that wasn't testing it.

Anyone up for it?

I just got abck from a run up there today. From the looks of it, Second Mountain Trail (SMT) is closed because some guy decided to put a "Private Property" sign up right at the trail head. I dont know how to access SMT but from 2 ways: Dictum Ridge, and right off Rt 33 just before Dictum. If anyone knows anything about this, please inform me, because I am up there at least once a month wheeling. SawMill is getting boring!!!!!! :(

Yes there is another way to get there. There is a back road from the north that leads to the parking area with the ramp for off-loading ATVs off a truck. I can't remember what it's called but if you have a DeLorme atlas that shows the "forest roads" down there, it should show what I'm talking about. I remember one time Mike told me about it when he was down there scouting trails. You should be able to find the atlas at Barnes and Noble. But you would still have to turn around at the bottom of Second Mountain or Dictum and go back up to the ATV staging area to get back out. Going up Second Mountain wouldn't be a problem but to go up that one ridge at the bottom of Dictum you would need lots of clearance, lockers and big cojones to try it next to that drop-off . I'm sure it's eroded more since then.

It doesn't look like I'll be able to come, money's just a little too tight right now. Post lots of pics when you go.

Is there a web site for the trials, or are there any set requirement to have on your rig before going? Or is it just whatever? I am interested in going but I just want to get some stuff ready if I need it..... (as you can tell this is my first trial ride  )

You will need skids and hooks. Everything has bypasses if its too much. A stock KJ with skids will have no issue doing these trails.

I may be able to make... Would love to get out and test my libby out. This will only be my 2nd time wheeling it and I'm always looking for advice. I just need to install my new rear shocks, front hooks, and skid plates. Hopefully I can get that done this weekend at the Auto Shop on base...

Meet-up at Sheets on Rt 33. Its the place we always meet at. Check previous run threads for an exact address/location. I would recommend all skids, but I understand that money can be tight with this economy. I would have at least a engine and tranny skid. Rockers will greatly increase your wheeling capability as you can pivot the Jeep around rocks. Again, everything has a bypass if you don't want to try it.

Looked at some prior threads and could not find directions. Is it the one about 1/2 mile west off I-81? And what time do you meet up?

Ok sorry guys work called and was out to sea without internet. Still trying to get plans together but still looking at going.

I have at least 3 poss 5 from Norfolk area coming up on Sat.

Uvalax when and where would be a good place and time to meet up with you in Richmond and then a good time to be at the Sheetz to meet everyone else?

Those of us from Norfolk will be bringing camping gear but if to cold then we will probably stay in hotels, but we are looking to stay up there both days.

KJ Willy: I can meet yall at the Oilville BP (Exit 167). Say we meet there at 9AM? Sheets at 11AM? That will have us on the trails by Noon at the latest. If yall want to do sooner, I can.
