I am a LOST member in Michigan and may be relocating to the Virginia Beach area some time soon. What are the good burbs of Virgina Beach and what are some good High Schools? Thanks, Ken |

PM me and I will send you my work address and phone number. Since this area is rather large it would be better to first chat on the landline. Mike |

No doubt. VA Beach is larger than most counties I've lived in. It's HUGE! A few rules of thumb for moving here: - Live somewhere that you don't have to cross a drawbridge or tunnel to get from your house to your work - Don't live in Portsmouth - Don't live in Newport News - Don't live at the ocean front if you like having a parking spot when you come home from work - Treat traffic patterns at the intersection of I64 and I264 as if there was a five-car pile-up there every afternoon during rush hour and adjust your home-to-work driving pattern accordingly - DO NOT CROSS A BRIDGE OR TUNNEL GOING FROM HOME TO WORK!!! (I know, I already said this...it deserves repeating) If you already have a job setup down here, PM me or Ugg with info and we'd be glad to help you figure out where to live. Some info to consider including in a PM: - Approximate age (this really is helpful, believe it or not) - Location of job - Rent/purchase budget - Married or single - Like to party, or like the quiet life? |

Well it is official. I am taking the offer and moving down to Virginia Beach. I'll be down there around the end of September. I hope my KJ can make it. I just found out that I have a water pump leak and possibly a head leak. My tentative start date for work is Sept 28th. |

I just got stationed in virginia beach not too long ago, keep an eye out for a silver patriotic KJ with an ARB. Planing to do a run to NC to run the beach sometime this year, also make runs to Gore Va for big dog events and also oakridge. |

My KJ is also silver. Keep an eye out for it in October. |

Still planning to move, but hit some delays. We'll probably be out there in a month or two. |

There is a home in Chseapeake that I am looking to rent. The route to work would take me over an expressway that is labeled as 64, 17, Hampton roads Beltway. Would this be a major concern for trafic problems? I expect to be out there in a month or two if everything goes ok with my clearance check. Do any of you have teanage daughters? My 15 year old is really dreading the move. It would help to put her in contact with someone before the move. Thanks, Ken |

As far as I know, Cox High School, on Great Neck Road, VA Beach, has the best public school rating in this area. You would need to move to select parts of the 23455 or 23451 area codes for your daughter to attend. PM me where you're looking in Chesapeake and I'll tell you if it's a good move or bad move. If you're looking at something along rt17, there are good and not so wonderful places. The traffic along I64 and route 17 would depend on your shifts. It's not a route I would like taking during afternoon rush-hour. It's never as bad as somewhere like DC around here, but it can get frustrating. |

I am here in VA. However, I had a change in job location so I am staying in the Chesapeake/Suffolk area at an extended stay. I will be driving around Virginia Beach tomorrow and throughout the week at NAS Oceana. |

Let me know if I can help out in any way LostRenegade. Be careful shopping houses around NAS-Oceana. Make sure you spend enough time in the area to catch a series of practice touch-and-gos. As we like to say in this area, "I love jet noise," and "Jet Noise - The Sound Of Freedom." But when I hang out at my buddy's place (near the corner of VA Beach Blvd and Great Neck Blvd) the jets overhead literally shake the windows in his house. You have to stop the movie or the phone conversation you're involved in while the jets go overhead and, sometimes, have to replace windows (if it's an older house). |

I noticed the noise during the check in process at NAS. I am looking southwest (Chesapeake/VB area) of there since my drive is now up to Suffolk. |

Stay away from Greenrun (VA Beach). I lived there for a year and had sirens wailing as soon as the sun set, police choppers flying over my house at least every other night, caught some dude trying to sneak into my backyard while I was taking out the trash, etc., etc. etc. I don't suggest anything off Indian River Road because rush-hour traffic is a NIGHTMARE over there getting off I64 and going past Regent University. My parents(-in-law) live over in Huntington Woods (around intersection of Kempsville & Volvo Parkway). There are some nice areas over there and, from what I hear, some new townhouses going up (that my buddy and his wife are thinking about buying into). But, if you're going to be working in Suffolk for long, I'd suggest looking out there. You'll get a lot more house for the money...but I don't know anything about the school systems in Suffolk, so that might sway things. Anyway, good luck. If you need a real estate agent, I have one that is AWESOME. Just let me know. |
