So I've been doing extensive researching about lifting my KJ and adding some off road lights. I was surprised to find out that you need a separate inspection on any lifted vehicle (I believe above 4" if I remember correctly). And the lights need to be covered. Anyway, my purpose on this thread is hopefully a few of you from Jersey could shed some light on your experience with your mods (any trouble from police about off road lights being installed, where they're installed, how many you have, etc. and also about the lift if you had to go through a special inspection for your lift, you get the idea). I plan on doing a 2.5" lift, just a little something for extra clearance. If I had more trails around where I live, I'd look to get a real lift. But for now this is my daily driver so just keeping it fairly simple. |

But for now this is my daily driver so just keeping it fairly simple. You won't get any trouble in NJ when you have a Jeep with a 2.5 lift. Only know one person to get in trouble and that's my friend with a Geo Tracker lifted 6 million feet in the air... You don't need special inspection for that small of a lift. |

Check this out: http://www.liftlaws.com/new_jersey_lift_laws.htm An NJ law that most people don't know about is that wheel spacers are illegal. Will cops ever catch you on it? No, because half of them don't even know about it themselves. |

Too many rules that just seem pointless. It's just another way for big brother to control us. So I've seen a post on this site about a guy who installed lights on the windshield cowl. Here is the link: viewtopic.php?f=45&t=63131 I actually started to install them but then took them off after I found out that the lights needed to have covers. But almost every car I see on the road that has off road lights do not have covers. Would I really get a ticket for not having them covered? I'm also concerned that I might get in trouble for "obstruction of view". Anyone have any thoughts on this? |

IMO as long as the AUX lights on the vehicle are off while you're driving on the road you shouldn't have an issue. The obstruction of view law is very open ended (like every NJ law) and they could possibly write you a ticket for the lights on the hood. It really depends on the LEO you deal with. |

Knock on wood, I have never had any problems with my spot lights in NJ. Honestly, I don't think they would really bother you unless the lights were on. And the way I see it, I have the covers that came with my KCs in the truck so I can just play stupid and say sorry I'm from out of state, I'll cover them now. You could probably do the same thing as long as you aren't being some wise @$$ Besides the way I read that law(or at least how it's stated in that link) is that anything after 4 lights is aux....well I don't have fogs, so I only have 4 lights

I went ahead and added the cowel lights to my Jeep. I doubt I'll have any trouble from the law as long as they're not on.

Not sure yet. I installed them for my weekend trip for a little extra light on the back trails but when I turned them on they were lighting up the tops of the trees. Once I fix the angle I'll report back. I'll also try to get more pictures if anyone is interested. |

No, because half of them don't even know about it themselves. I know this is an old thread, but I saw something interesting: Bumpers must span the full width of the vehicle. AKA no stubby bumpers. Anyone know if this is actually enforced? Not a problem for a KK, but looking to get an older wrangler as a project car soon |
