The first official Spring Training Event will be held June 9th - 11th in Ligonier Pennsylvania.
This event is being organized as a joint effort by members of
Western PA Xterra Club and
PghOffRoad. The event is geared towards 4x4 owners with all levels of experience from novice to expert. All are welcome, regardless of the make of their vehicle or their experience level on the trail. It is being planned as a family-friendly (and pet-friendly) event, so feel free to bring the kids or the dogs - or both! There will be plenty to do and fun to be had by all!
The reasoning behind this event is to bring people together and educate them on the common techniques and safety practices associated with the sport of off-roading. It is designed to promote positive and responsible off-roading guidelines for everyone out there on the trail. The weekend will provide time for both educational seminars and actual off-roading excursions.
Some of the topics to be covered in the educational aspect of the weekend will be:
- Proper equipment needed for safe, fun, and effective off-roading.
- Safety practices and techniques to follow while off-roading.
- Common and safe driving techniques that can be used when off-roading.
- The concepts associated with the Tread Lightly! program.
The event is a RAIN OR SHINE event. It will be held regardless of weather conditions, and special rates have been negotiated with the folks out at
Mirror Lake Campground for the weekend. The folks out at the campground have drastically reduced their rates for us, and have been extremely helpful in halping us get set up for this event. We have arranged to have a number of tent sites in the same area of the campground, but ultimately space is limited and reservations are required. A 50% deposit is needed at the time of reservation. Make sure to tell them that you are with the "Spring Training Event" and give them the dates you will need to stay.
Camping rates are as follows:
Adults - $15.00 / weekend
Children - $6.00 / weekend
(Children under the age of 4 are free.)
Mirror Lake RV Camping & Fishing
112 Trout Run Drive
New Florence, PA 15944
724-235-9983 or 1-888-234-9983
If you have the opportunity to take a look at the campground website you will see that the rates have been drastically reduced to accommodate us. The folks out at Mirror Lake Campground have even offered us the pavilion on site for our event. Firewood is available at the campground for $5.00 / $10.00 per bundle, but you are permitted to bring your own firewood as well.

A few things to take into consideration when packing for the event:

- You will need enough food for dinner Friday, and breakfast and lunch both Saturday and Sunday.
- Bring plenty of water, both to the camp and on the trail.
All vehicles participating in the trail ride portions of the event must be deemed safe for the trail.
A visual safety inspection will be completed on all vehicles participating in the off-roading portion of the event by the designated instructors assisting with the event. As always safety is a huge concern during any off-roading event. Any vehicles which are deemed to be unsafe will be asked to not participate in any of the actual off-roading events.
