So from experience (and talking to others) I know that the Rancho shocks were notorious for causing a clunk when used in the rear. This was likely because the bushings or sleeves were the wrong size.

I'm looking for some new shocks and I'm wondering what everybody runs these days. Anybody run the Monroe 37158 shocks? From the catalog, it seems they would be perfect for a 1.5" to 2" lift and they are cheap and readily available at auto parts stores.

Wrong information, not really any problems with Ranchos, great shock for a KJ
add a washer maybe but thats all

whole lot better than junk Monroes

JeepinbyAl could still get the ranchos a while back

don't go cheap but if you do you have been warned!

FROM EXPERIENCE...

Monroe shocks suck... I have a pair in the rear of my KJ and either the shock just isn't long enough for the lift, or the shock is just junk. Whenever the KJ goes over depressions in the road that droop the back axle down, it sounds and feels like I am going to leave my 8.25 100 yards behind me...

I concur, one needs to preload the shock bushing or they'll wear out real quick!! Using a washer is the ticket. Most good shocks come with a bag of extra goodies (most of which you shouldn't need) so that they work on many slightly different applications.

I also concur on the don't go cheap, although if you get the monroe sensa-trac, they are pretty good. the cheap bottom of the line monroes are useless.

If money isn't an issue, I would go Bilsteins all around. I have them up front on my XJ on 36" TSLs and my wife falls asleep in the passenger seat driving on the highway.....they're that good.

Yes that part no. is for Sensa-Tracs which are good shocks. I've used Bilsteins before and they were a waste of money. Did absolutely nothing for me that a $35 shock hasn't.

Well I may give the Monroes a whirl then since no one has any good suggestions. I put the Monroes on my Dodge Ram and loved them.

P.S. I tried everything imaginable with the Ranchos and they knock and banged like heck and I got tired of it so the stock shocks went back on. Gotta' find something that is actually a good fit because I need some extra flex back there.

I put the Rancho 5000 on my wife's S10 blazer... knocked her the fillings out of her teeth and she doesn't even have any.... to stiff for that vehicle, put them on my Tahoe. Ended up going with the Sensa tracs. I was wondering about this too as I will be replacing the front shocks on her Libby, I too am curious about good shocks other than Ranchos.

Teeth, or fillings? :SOMBRERO:

This is was my concern as well, but it sounds like they aren't too stiff on the KJ...I think we're heavier than the Blazers...

Ok so Order some 9000xl's and be done with it lol. Full adjustability expensive but you gotta pay to play as they say..... Also apparently hard to get my front have been on order for almost 2 months. Also anyone know if I have to do the washer trick on the rear with the 9000's?

If someone backed up to my door right now with a semi load of Monroes for 10 bucks I'd tell them to leave
and everyone knows how I like to wheel and deal.
Cheap shocks=cheap ride
I guess a lot of people like worn out feeling shocks :-)r
