If you offroad hard, hit something hard, or the likes, it could shift. I have found most alignment guys do the bare minimum.

How about explaining "cradle". My alignment guy said my car pulled. When driving it home on the interstate last night it handled fine.

I am waiting to hear from Marlin on his advice :juggle:

How common is it for the cradle to be out of alighnment?
Seems like something that would only happen if you had removed and re installed it for some reason.

Its common , buddy slid off the road into a curb hitting it pretty good years ago
After having alignments at over a dozen shops over the years he still had issues
I talked him inot taking it to my alignment guy who found the problem in 5 minutes.
We took it back to my place, pulled the cradle back where it should of been
Another alignment and all was good
Most alignment shops just set the best they can and shove ya out the door sadly

Marlin can't fix an issue like that

Do liberties have slotted cradle mount holes to aid in alignment? I've never had this come up when aligning one.

The holes are a little ovaled. Not really slotted.

Tom,

Can you walk me through what I need to check as pulling the cradle back.

With my alignment being "out of spec" I'm guessing my cradle is out of too.

Thanks,

Tom

If I have air impact tools and a "C clamp" style ball joint press is replacing the lower ball joints something a "somewhat mechanically inclined" individual can handle or something that should be done at a shop?

I'm gonna have a go at it. Worst case I have to get it put on a flatbed and taken somewhere to complete :--)

I tried all the combinations I could think of using my harbor freight ball joint tools and the loaner from Advanced Auto Parts and couldn't come up with a way to press the ball joint out. It came out easily with the my shop press, but that necessitated removing the spindle. Thus it took me about 4 hours of messing around on the first side, and 45 minutes on the second side once I was resigned to the process.

One hint if you go this route, I disconnected the wheel speed sensors up in the engine bay and put a string on them to help me guide them back up for reconnection. On the CRD at least, it's pretty tight getting them back in place (especially the drivers side). The wires have a tendency to seize/break at the end where it goes into the wheel bearing.

The shop that did all of my alignments showed me where it was sitting at as far as alignment went, then we measured while still on the rack to make sure
There was also overspray in the area it used to be from the factory so we could sort of tell.
But took it back to my garage, loosened all but opposite corner bolts up, hooked my KJ to his cradle and just put some pressure on it
Pulled right back where it needed to be and they did the alignment then

Same way I did mine except for a come along hooked up to a tree. Doesn't take much pressure

I spoke with marlin today and he said the adjust camber and toe. And let the caster fall where it may. This has been repeated in posts back in this thread so I guess we're all good?

Thanks,

Tom

That's excellent advise for tire wear, how I ended up setting mine. Problems come from the "fall where it may" part in regard to driveability, return to center, over/under steer in curves, etc.
