The little libby is now my commuter since we just got the wife a WK2 EcoDiesel. It is at 197K now. It has had a weird vibration for a while that I notice more now that I am driving it regularly. It only occurs only at about 45-50 MPH and is load dependent. Very light load almost can't notice it. Heavy load, very noticeable. It' s very high frequency, low amplitude. At highway speed, smooth as usual. The rear axles have little play, but I know c-clip style axles can have some normal play. I had dealer check rear wheel bearings while it was at the dealer for something else and they said wheel bearings Ok. I recently replaced rear upper control arm due to worn out bushings and no change. I'm thinking drive shaft u joint??? Thoughts???? Oh yeah, if it is in full time 4x4, the symptoms are much better..

I would be checking the rear driveshaft U joints real close! You may actually have to remove them to find if you have a dry or seized up joint causing the vibration!

I thought I would re-visit this issue again since it is still present. I replaced the rear u joints with Precision and it made no difference. Still all but completely goes away if in full time 4x4. At this point, I'm thinking ring and/ or pinion bearings. :( Any thoughts before I go down that path??

Does the transfer case have an output shaft bushing or bearing allowing the output yoke to wobble when in 2wd? (forward of the U-joint)
Have you checked the transfer case end CV of the front axle drive shaft?

I would open up the rear differential and have a look for anything that has any excess play

Front drive shaft was replaced within the last 30K miles. I haven't noticed any play at transfer case but I also didn't think to examine it closely when I had the rear drive shaft out.

Pinion play should be very noticeable to feel with rear drive shaft disconnected. Carrier bearing play can only be seen by opening up the differential and inspecting....

Hi, I'm new to this forum and came here as a result of my 40-50mph driveline vibration that matches the same symptoms. Just spend $ on new front and new rear driveshafts, both CV axles and mid shaft. No improvement.

This 2002 KJ has a 2" OME lift, so some shops are saying "Pinion angles!" but others say no. I just (hesitantly) bought a JBA Y-Link Extension with hopes that will work on any pinion angle issues.

What was the end result if this thread?

I also had the vibration issue. Had everything done / checked that may be the cause: driveshaft balanced, U joints, just about any rotating mass that may be causing it. Only came in at 45-50 mph.

Turned out to be driveline angle. I lowered the transmission mount about 3/4 inch and vibration was gone.

Not near high enough to have driveline vibes

have you had the tires balanced lately? it sounds like you have eliminated just about every other rotating component.
