Hi everyone!
I've been hearing a rogue noise for some time while driving, it wasn't always there in the beginning ( roughly 1 year ago) but recently i can hear it almost every time i accelerate when i reach 1800-2000 rpm. From inside the car it sounds like a pretty loud rattling noise like scraping something metallic on concrete.
This only happens while accelerating and decelerating at the same rpm. If i'm under or over 2k rpm i can't hear it ( or it's so faint it's blocked by background noise).
I've eliminated lose skid plates, heat shields and the exhaust.
Today i had the car running with the hood open and found that the sound comes from the engine area. I revved the engine to 2k rpm while in N and it sounds like a loud grinding. Definitely not the same as when inside the car.

Otherwise there aren't any other noises, no thumping, no dash markers, nothing unusual..I maintain the car and address any issues but i have no idea what it could be..

Maybe someone encountered a similar issue and can point me in the right direction?

Car specs - 2003 Jeep Liberty Renegade, 2.8 CRD 4x4 ~80k miles / 129000 km

Location: Somewhere between Heaven and Hell... But it is really hot here on Earth...
Take the serpentine belt off the engine, and the harmonic balancer (crankshaft pulley) off. Try duplicating the sound.

If not present, look at the balancer first - if the rubber ring on the back is missing / gapped, that is the problem.

We may deal with the intermittent rattling sound on my friend's incoming 2006 KK. Got to finish installing the rotors and gear wheels on the Silverado tomorrow before we can take her in.

Happy to report i found the problem, easy ( and cheap!) fix, hopefully it helps others in a similar situation! It was a loose engine cover bolt.
I was set on removing the serpentine belt etc when i noticed the bolt wiggling. I asked my friend to rev the engine and sure enough i heard the rattle, placed my hand on the bolt and no more rattle.. I replaced the bolt and problem solved!
It was just by luck that i found it but i'm happy it wasn't anything serious!
