I have a 2005 Jeep CRD 2.8L I'm having a P0340 Code issue. The code is for the camshaft sensor, which I replaced. I cleared the code but it came back. I read online that the code can actually be an issue with the crankshaft sensor. So I replaced the crankshaft sensor. The code still comes back. I've noticed that its not starting like it used to. Often stumbles while starting. If it stumbles I need to shut the key off and retry. Almost always starts on the second try. Once its running everything seems fine. Any help or direction would be appreciated.

Replace the "CAMSHAFT" position sensor, check wiring and connector pin drag and make sure all is tight. :D

I'm sorry. I had an error in my original post which I have corrected. Yes the code is for the camshaft sensor. I started off by replacing the camshaft sensor. When that did not solve the problem I replaced the crankshaft position sensor. That didn't work either. I unplugged the camshaft position sensor and the vehicle will not start. Plug it back in and it will start. So that would indicate to me that the camshaft sensor is working. Any direction would be appreciated.
Thanks

Check wiring, connector/pin fitment at sensor, and pin fitment at ECM for cam sensor circuit. See diagram
Check quality of ground at sensor and 5v power supply at sensor.

Other than the cam sensor, ground, power supply, wiring, and connectors, there is not much else to consider other than the ECM itself if you are still getting the P0340 DTC.
Does the P0340 DTC set immediately after clearing the codes and restarting the engine?
The stumble on startup you described could be a fuel issue? Have you tried pumping up the fuel primer pump before starting to see if it makes any difference?
Do you have intank fuel pump installed?

Thank you for the diagram, Hopefully I can take a look at it this weekend. The code does not come back immediately but it will come back after driving 15 minutes or so. As far as fuel goes, I added the electric fuel pump to the fuel tank a couple years back so fuel should not be an issue. But now that you mention it, I'm going to check the fuses to make sure the one for the fuel pump is good.

Tried leaving the battery disconnected overnight to do a hard reset. This morning I reconnected the battery, turned the key and the code showed up immediately. To be sure I cleared the code. Upon restart the code showed up again immediately. I'll try cleaning and testing the electrical and let you know what I find.
