So I just finally got done installing my 2.5" Daystar lift on my 06 CRD. No way the front is going to work. It's way too tall and a good amount taller than the rear. The front looks like it was lifted 5". The inner CV boots are making full contact with the bottom of the strut. This is a total disaster. I thought the front spacers looked wrong, they were about 2.5" long. Of course 2.5" of lift at the strut is going to give you twice as much lift at the wheel. Anyone else have this lift? Need help, Jeep is undrivable as is.

Sounds like something is installed wrong, although noone will be able to help much without pictures.

That's a tried and true lift...probably the most proven spacer lift for the KJ. Let's see some pictures and maybe we can help.

Do you think that he has put the spacer under the strut instead of under the spring???

Let me try and get some pics. The spacer is on the bottom of the spring. Is that correct? I took the struts down to a shop and had them dissasemble the struts and install the Daystar spacer toward the bottom of the strut, then reassemble using the daystar strut plates. Is that correct?

The poly spacer should only be about 1.5"-1.75" tall. Did they remove the stock rubber pad?

The pics look like crap cause it's dark out. But I just measured the poly spacer and it's slanted 3" on one side and 2.5" on the other. I think I must have got the wrong spacers.

After bounching the front of the Jeep a bunch to settle it, the front sits 1" higher than the rear.

The biggest problem here is the driver side inner CV boot is touching the bottom of the of the srtut. If I drive it at all like this it's going to cut that boot in the first 1/4 mile.

Here you can just make out that the spacer is 3" tall.

It sounds like you got a left over original kit. The pucks for the front (I believe) were made smaller after 2002 essentially due to your problem. The original kit raised the front of the Jeep 3+ inches. I had that kit in my KJ and I just can't picture how the clevis is touching the CV boot, unless the 06 boots are larger. It is possible to get CV boot contact when installing everything. This is interesting. Maybe the spring rate difference is causing the extra lift.

Just as real quick guess and quick fix, is to remove the pucks and cut about an inch off the bottom. We installed a Franken Lift on Jason's CRD and didn't have this problem. The Franken lift for the diesels come with the Daystar pucks that we needed to install. The Daystar kits are a real bear to install. The front will be about an inch higher than rear, after they are installed.

Does anybody know if the spring rates on the 06 CRD was increased?

Pictures please.

I think we will need to see what is going on befroe we can make a real good judgment call.

Al

I will get some measurements of it tonight for you.
I ordered the 1.5 / 2.5 kit, so it will be intresting to compare values.

You definitely of the "old" full 2.5" front pucs. You should get the new puc that is ~1.75" from the bottom to the spring seat.

Back in 2002 I got the first Daystar like that...I took the front puc out and cut off an 1" off the top and reinstalled. That is how we found out that 1.5-1.75" yeilds ~ 2-2.5" of lift. If you can not get them to replace with the correct front puc you can cut. You must takeh cut from the top so the puc still fits around the Strut Insert at the bottom. You will end up with a flat surface on top of the puc but the spring will stay in place from the preload of the strut. Some of the new front spacers have a bump on the side to protect the UBJ. Contact Quinn at www.bouldebars.com , he will be able to set you straight.

Here is a pick from my 05 CRD. This is the Jeepin Al was just talking about. I measured my puck and showing 3" on the high side and 21/8" on the low
Image

I was thinking is your puck pointed the right direction? There is a bump stop molded into mine that needs to point out towards the tire. See the yellow circle.

But like every one else with out pics of yours...

Yes, the CRD front springs are much, much stiffer than the gas model KJs. Not sure if the '06 CRD springs are stiffer than the '05 CRD springs. All Daystar 2.5" spacer lifts on a CRD will leave the front 1" higher than the rear. "LibertyCRD" showed me this last year on this board. He installed only the rear and front pucks, with no front strut top place - as did I.

It nets just shy of 2" in the front, and a solid 2" in the back - perfect for the CRD. Fill up your Fuel Tank and it sits dead level.

Now, if you add a crap load of weight on the front like an ARB Bull Bar and a winch - then maybe put the top strut plate in as you will get some spring compression.

Here is mine right after the lift and before the Boulder Bars were added - this is with P255/70R16 tires on it:

Image

I've read that another option is to keep the front strut top plate in and also retain the rear factory spring isolator - just adding the Daystar rear puck on top of it.

I like my option the best as it keeps the front cv angles basically level so the front wheels are the farthest away from the body of the jeep as possible; hence, no rubbing at all with the 255/70R16s installed...

I was also thinking of going with the Daystar 2.5", but when I talked to Daystar they told me the the correct part # for the CRD is KJ090123BK, which is a 1.5" front, 2" rear spacer only. This kit does not include bump stops, sway bar bushings, etc. I can only assume this will net a 2" lift when installed, but I don't know if this is going to be enough to install 245/75/16's without rubbing. Any thoughts?

I have the ome 1.5in lift front, and 2" rear. My 255/70 generals rub alittle at full lock. Both on the fog light door and pinch weld. Mine are only 30" tires, so I would have to say no. Unless you do not care to do some major trimming. I also have 5" BS rims.

We just installed a Daystar lift today on a CRD today and it came out great. I would beware of buying lift kits on Ebay, you don't really know what you are getting.

We install the Daystar kits on CRD KJ's all the time without a problem.
