As of 0653 hours Monday.....

"We did two test installs yesterday and ran into an unexpected issue with one of them, while the second went well. We are working with engineering and some suppliers to quantify the issue and make a recommended solution. We will release the locker for purchase as quickly as we have this one issue resolved."

This being said I have just ordered the Powertrax No-Slip that will be in Friday...though it will end up being $160 more total. What the heck, it's just money.

Just got the exact same email. I asked them what the issue with the one locker was and how far this will set them back. This sucks!

Here is the reply email I just got back:

On the 99 Cherokee we had a fit issue on one of the axles. The second
vehicle install went well. So we are working with Chrysler and their
supplier to see if there is a wide variance in diameters on the Chrysler
8.25 29 spline. We may have an anomaly, or there may be more of these
larger axles out there.

Sorry for the delay and we are working as fast as possible to get this
resolved.

So hopefully Chrysler gets them the info they need and the problem is with the XJ and not the KJ, I'm not holding my breath though.

I hope they can get it fixed soon, maybe you should tell them you are willing to test one for them in the KJ

Ironically, the transmission shop said they could not install my Detroit Locker in the rear because the C clamps would not fit over the axle. The part number says it's right, but the part does not fit.

Torq Masters is doing another install tomorrow. The outcome of that will determine what action they will take. This does not give me the "warm and fuzzies"...I'll pay more for something that I know works...especially since I know meh_kick has a Powertrax and I have not heard him say one negative thing about it.

Yeah, not sure what I want to do now. I still want the Aussie and I know they will get things squared and figured out, but I don't want to wait forever.

Just to let you know the axles changed in the KJ's in the '06 model year,so the '02-'05 KJ's have the same axles in the 8.25 and the '06+ have different axles in the 8.25.Not sure if they are thicker or thinner, they still are 29-spline and all the years,'02-'07,use the same C-clips.

As do others, you just gotta know what you're getting into with it.

Are you doing your own install?

I have a question, because obviously I’m missing the boat here. Why doesn’t anyone go with the ARB air locker in the rear?

I think it is mainly a cost-driven decision. Install may play into it also. The ARB is more difficult and usually requires someone experienced. That is why I was looking into the Aussie. It is a straight swap with no adjustments (supposedly).

However, I've finally decided to go ARB. Mainly to keep the on-road manners for when the wife drives it. She doesn't like how low the convertible sits that I bought her for Valentine's day.

I agree, the ARB seems to be the best choice if money wasn't the issue. If money is the issue, then I would think it would be best to wait until you can afford the ARB. After learning and reading about lockers for the KJ, I think the ARB, hands-down, is the best choice for me.

Nope, Big George's in Milford is putting it in. Since it would cost more for me to take a day off work to have it in by the weekend I just had him order it and they are putting it in Friday.

money is my reason plus I like the idea of having one I dont have to turn on and off its always working so Im leaning towards the DTT in the rear or the DL

Sure it's nice never to worry about turning the locker on/off,but a locker that is always working like the luchbox style lockers or the Detriot locker is you wear the tires faster and place more strain on the driveline which will wearout those items faster also.

Yes the ARB is pricey, but the strength and zero effect on the street makes it worth the extra cost.I have had my ARB installed in my rear 8.25 for 3 years and 35,000 miles with no problems at all,no air leaks, and always 100% locked up when I wanted it to and was 100% fully open when I wanted it to be,well worth the $1000 spent on it and the compressor.

$1,000 vs $300. I'm sticking with the Aussie.

When you break the aussie it'll cost you more then the $700 difference to fix  .

Quote:

The reason was the D30A,the TT made me keep my foot on the brakes to fool the TT to "lock" which in turned slowed me down and since I always had the brakes applied when one front wheel was in the air no possibility of blowing the diff.

Your assumption that it will break is a very very big one. In all the reviews I have seen for Aussie lockers I have heard of one breaking and one guy had a defective unit that wouldn't engage and both guys were taken care of by Aussie. I have heard of way more issues with the ARB.
