As long as the engine's running, so is the winch & power steering. As spoonplugger says, its normal prictise to ramp up the engine rpms a bit to aid the pump (as with any hydraulic application)

TJoe, no, definately 8000Lbs, anything else is just Richard measuring. :P An 8K Lb hydraulic winch is regarded the same as a 10K Lb Electric, well, as far as the Aussies are concerned !! :P!!

OzLtd, how do you ramp up the RPMs without using the accelerator so that you can use the winch while outside of the vehicle.?

Not sure mate, never thought of that cause i've never used or needed a winch !!! I guess you'd have someone in the drivers seat at all times, I know I would be.

Then use the remote ?

Never had to use my winch either, so I can't really say I know much about winching :)
