yes and no....depends on tire size, how many plys, 6/8/10 etc, type of tire etc, plus only a few 15 inch steel wheels fit the KJ

I just found out today that the factory wheels on the 2007 Limited’s are 17x7.5. Every KJ, 2002-2006 got the 16x7. Does the extra ½” wider increase my options?

It's the other way around.Take two 33" tires,and both are 10.5" wide,bassically the same demensions(same plies and everything) but one is for a 15" rim and the other for a 16" rim.The one for the 16" rim will weigh less mounted on the same type(steel or alloy) rim then the 15" one.Rubber(as in tires) is heavier then steel or alloy.Hence the reason most newer vehicles are going to 17"+ rim sizes without increasing the overall tire diameter,to save weight for better mpg's.

No,and 17x7.5 rims where part of some option packages I think starting in '03 or '04(freedom edition is one).

Thanks, oh, and good information on why automakers are making taller wheels! I didn’t know that rubber weighed more than steel. I guess this could be another advantage for keeping my factory wheels

Just a example----

315/75R16 BFG AT's
--D range
--68lbs apiece

315/70R17
--D range
--64lbs apiece

These 2 tires are pretty darn close in specs,same # of plies and tread depth,granted the 315/70R17's are 0.2" taller and have a slightly wider section with so the only 4lbs less weight is not as dramatic as it should be.

As for rims I choose Unique Steel series 297(same as Crager soft 8's).

16x8 rim is 37 lbs

17x8 rim is 38 lbs

Not much of a difference between the 16" and 17" rim unlike the 16" and 17" tires.

So what would be the weight different between a 16x7 Steel vs. 16x7 Alloy?

Really depends on the type/style of the wheels,can be 1 or 2 lbs or as much as 15lbs.
