By the looks of your picture, I've got two comments. First, it looks like you have the stock tires or A/T's at best. They aren't very good in the mud. Second, you couldn't have been digging very hard because your shorts are still white

Well even if they were slick 50's they would have went through the hole if I wouldn't have bottomed out. My shorts are white in the picture because they took the pic before I had gotten down on all fours and started digging with my hands. Sure if I wanted to go swimming I probably could have dug myself out in 3 or 4 hours at best. I decided instead to call my buddy with his old International Scout. He walked it right through and pulled me out with his wench. Thanks for the replies guys, I appreciate it.

I'm just giving you a hard time. Nothing serious. Every year for the last 4, my buddy has gotten us stuck somewhere, somehow and I'm always out there pushing or digging. It's not much fun. Next time he does it, I'm telling him to get out and push while I drive.

I though about it, but I really want those ome shocks and struts. Like everyone says, "you get what you pay for."

you can still have OME shocks and springs and not buy a Frankenlift What the heck is everyone talking about?? You dont need to buy the Frankenlift to have them , plus after all the miles I have on my setup I would not have the OME shocks

Lifetime warranty huh? I didn't know that. Sounds like a no brainer then. I'm glad All J didn't respond yet. I'll have to go price everything seperately now and see if I would be better off going that route.

MT/R's blow goats in the mud.

That's exactly what I was thinking after reading at least two people recommend them to this guy with a pic of his KJ stuck in the mud. ANY sort of maximum traction tire, generally called M/Ts, are better than the MT/R in mud, because they have some sort of self-cleaning capabilities. We've been through this before...M/T=mud terrain, MT/R=maximum traction reinforced/rocks whatever, point is, not an M/T. MT/Rs are coincidentally great on the rocks, but they lack the self-cleaning to be a good mud tire. If he's going to be in the mud a lot, he should get some sort of Swamper or any M/T.

I just didn't want anyone thinking they're going to plow through the mud in a tire that doesn't self-clean well enough to prevent turning into a donut.

I'm sure you know this but.......MTR's are loud on the highway. The front skid plate does make a good shovel! Some of us have made a plate to attach to the front of the factory skid plate and up front by the bumper. It isn't really a skid plate, more of a deflector. Road signs work very well! I'm not suggesting stealing one, go to the highway dept. for a banged up one.

WELCOME TO LOST!!

Terry

Yeah anything with blocks for tread are pretty loud. I have a buddy with Nitto mud grapplers and they're rediculous. I have to say your description of the front "shovel" is more acurate than me calling it a "plow". I tried scooping out what I could with my hands when I got home, but I eventually just took it off and hosed it down. My front end was soooo heavy on the ride back. You can't tell from the picture but the mud is about 60% sand. Everything under there seems like it's made to collect mud. The LCA's, brake calipers, crossmember and especially the front skid. I was under ther with a flathead screwdriver and a hose for a couple of hours. I let it dry over night and half a day before I tried cleaning it. (big mistake) I'd like to see a picture of your deflector mod. Thanks for the welcome.

Nice photos Tom! Someone should copy your design and sell it, then you could make 10% from all sales.

Does that sign skid bolt on the bottom to the engine skid or anything else? Or is it just bent over the skid lip?

Well I did it. I ordered a Frankenlift today. I went ahead and got the standard one with the ranchos all around. You can't argue with a lifetime warranty. It's Friday now, it should be here by Tuesday or Wednesday':D' . I can't wait to put it on even though I'll be tooling around on stock size tires until I buy some bigger ones. My current tires are almost new so I'd hate not to get some use out of them.

You can always sell them on Craig's List or eBay and it will help defer some of the cost of the mudders you'll be wanting.

I made it so it goes down over the original front (engine) skid about two inches, it bolts to the front of the ARB and then also under the radiator support, with an ARB it comes with a flat sort of skid that attaches the same way I just made mine longer to go all the way curved down over.
The first one I built went from the front of the bumper to the front of the skid but I lost a lot of ground clearance, when coming up to rocks etc. second version works much better.
Its been on there about 60,000 miles through mud, sand, etc and I never get anything piled up in the skid now

My only concern is that I have hit towards the top of my skid on massive boulders and had to back up and take a better line. I'd be worried about pulling the sign skid off or bending it when the rocks might catch the lip of the sign. If it bolted to the skid it'd be perfect.

no problem bolting it on as I said mines about two inches down over the skid so drilling and placing a few bolts in it is no big deal, I have never seen the need ....yet  Also the area under the radiator support already has metal screws up into it, so just reused what was there

Trailman,

You'll be happy. I honestly don't feel a huge difference between my Premium Frankenlift and my old Daystar/Rancho lift. The important thing is that you have the lift. No more dragging on low obstacles... Get some Boulder Bars next :D

Ive always been curious where people get that from. The Franken lift uses the OME HD coils but also has a .75in spacer, of course its going to have more lift than just the OME HD coils.

you will not be disappointed!!! i have the standard frankenlift and absolutely love it. however i did add an extra rear isolator to raise the back up a little since franki's sit a little nose high. the beauty of this lift is you unbox it and bolt it in.. better post pictures!!!

some inspiration.
