Naw...they are going on soon. A guy that works next door to me drives a Rubicon and we park next to each other every day. I can't wait to have my KJ lifted with the MOAB's lined up with him. 8)

depends on the width and backspacing of the wheel

but isnt it really only safe to do a 4.5" back spacing? and with that will it be more than the 1.25" width of the spacers?

the stock BS is 5.5" so if you wanted aftermarket wheels that would be the same as OEM w/ spacers you would need 4.25" BS but most just get 4" BS that's what I have and several others

OK that makes absolutely no sense bc if u get a aftermarket wheel with a BS of 4" and then add spacers you would have a total BS of 5.25", thats .5" less than stock BS and if u get 4.25" BS and and spacers then that takes u back to the original 5.5” which at that point seems to me like a waste.

no no, sorry you got what I said confused.

Stock BS is 5.5"
most people get 4" BS when they get new wheels and DO NOT use spacers

so if you take your OEM BS which is 5.5" and then you subtract your 1.25" spacers you get 4.25" BS

How to Measure Wheel Backspace

Step 1
Lay the wheel on a flat surface, front side facing down.

Step2
Lay the yardstick across the top of the rim, from one side to the other. If there is a tire on the wheel you must then lay a flat edge the correct size of the rim, from one side to the other, which will lay flat onto the edge of the rim, not the tire.

Step3
Measure the distance from the inside mounting surface of the wheel, where the lug nut holes are, which mates against the axel hub on the car, to the lower edge of your flat ruler/stick lying across the top edge of the rim. This measurement is your "Back Space" measurement!

check this site out maybe it will help you understand BS a little bit more

im pretty sure your explaining it right its just I am retarded and don’t know what is going on lol.

But what Im getting from your information is what I said earlier
Quote:

Bc u said on stock BS its 5.5 w/ the 1.25 spacers which if u minus them its 4.25”. Then u said most people get 4” BS on aftermarket wheels and don’t use spacers. Which to me sounds like the wheel would go into in wheel well. But when they add spacers it puts them back at 5.25”

the less BS you have the further the wheel/ tire will stick out.

lets see if I can confuse you more Quicksilver
if you had a 7 inch wheel with NO backspacing the backside of the wheel would sit flush with the hub, with 7 inches from the hub surface out, the more backspace you have the more it sits back over the hub. So in theory say a wheel that is 7 inches wide with 5 inch back spacing will sit with 5 inches behind the hub surface and 2 in front of the hub surface, the same 7 inch wheel with 4 inch backspacing will have 4 behind and 3 in front
clear as MUD yet

people use a spacer to make a say stock 5 inch back spaced wheel to a 3.75 backspaced wheel. That way larger tires etc will clear body parts, control arms/ tierods etc. Best thing to do is just buy a aftermarket wheel wheel with the right backspacing
