I use my '02 to tow stuff all the time, that’s one of the big reasons I bought it. I flat tow and trailer tow my dune buggy about 2.5 hours on a regular basis. Of course the buggy doesn't weight all that much. I tow the catamaran about 40 mins to the lake about two dozen times a year.

The worst thing I have ever towed was the glider, which is a very long trailer. If you aren't actively steering you'll end up in the ditch. (Especially with a strong cross wind.)

I have never had any engine, transmission, or brake related issues due to towing. I have destroyed one of the rear brakes on a trail however.
