Maybe see if tom woods can rebuild yours?? The liberty front shaft should be a simple thing to deal with....no movement between the pinion and the tcase.

There's more movement then you think since they are not hard mounted but on rubber bushings.

So there is nothing wrong with my shaft or the joint... but I am going to have to spend $400-500 to replace the whole thing because DC doesn't make a rubber boot? I don't understand this. If I go with a standard shaft, won't they need to put a new boot on?

A standard shaft uses U-joints,no boots to "put on".

I'm going to have to get back under there. Are you saying that there is no boot on a stock CRD libby on the front drive shaft next to the transfer case? I could have sworn I put my finger on it and through it into the grease.

Yes there is a boot on the front drive shaft at the end closest to the T-case...

They are saying if you get a tom woods front drive shaft it uses U Joints..... So no ruber boots

Your CRD does not use a "standard" front driveshaft,it uses a Rzeppa Joint on both ends where as a "standard" driveshaft uses a u-joint on each end.

Hmmm... I looked that up on Wikipedia. Very interesting. So I still need a solid boot over that right? Any idea why Chrysler wouldn't be making more?

Oh and do you mean then that the CRD and the gasser have different joints?

Seems like most make it to 120,000-140,000 miles , some sooner but not many

My boot is out at 76,000 miles. The joint is still holding up, but I don't know for how long. I wonder if I can grease pack it over and over to make it last longer.

You could pack grease in it, would last maybe 1/4 of a mile before it would be sling out!
Easy to replace at least on the gassers.

Yeah I just got the quote. The shaft and labor out the door is $539.74 from the local dealer and several days for parts. The boot can't be serviced without the whole shaft assembly. If this only made it 76,000 miles with NO offroad driving and limited abuse, I'm wondering if the original Mopar part is worth it.

I have posted on the CRD page so forgive my repeated comments. I'm going to look into a Tom Woods to see what I'm looking at. I want a full price on the front and rear yoke plus the shaft. I don't think this rig will ever be off road, so I don't need anything too heavy. I have a CJ for that. My CJ has a Tom woods on the front.

I got one for about two hundred and some on Ebay, working as good as the stock one. No problems. Mine did make it to over 130,000 miles so if this one does as well I'll be happy without spending the big bucks for a Woodys

Prepare for vibs with with a u-joint driveshaft, may not happen at 1st but it will appear from the incorrect angles that are non-adjustable on a KJ.

After switching both yokes, a double cardon on t-case end, alot of balance work, few busted knuckles and some choice words I have not had any issues with my Tom woods for quite some time.
