I bought my CRD 3 years ago to tow my 4500 lbs of boat and trailer, with the GDE tune and an updated tstat, I get 22 mpg towing, 28-30 highway.
I do all my own maintenance including the timing belt, brakes, fluids, etc..

Absolutely no major issues with the thing. I burn biodiesel from the plant near my work site 1 tank a month to clean things out.

I have all the metric tools I need to service it and am very satisfied with the machine. The only chance I'd trade it in is the 2014 Commander with the eco-diesel and the 8 speed turns out to be a steller machine.

If you hand calculate, you will find that you're not getting 22 mpg towing 4500 lbs.

Whether you buy a diesel or gasoline engine, I would add a transmission cooler.
