fyi, the new Skid Rowe skid is much beefire than original design. It has frame supports like All J's. Mine held up very well under heavy fire.

I've never done any rock crawling, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. That's why I went with All-J's skid. I wouldn't worry about the shipping. All-J is more reasonable on shipping than Rusty's.

the first picture is the front factory skid....covers the center of the front differential/passenger axle tube and the front of the engine....it has holes to access bolts, etc....I repainted it primer while I had it off to install a front detroit true-trac....scraped it up a little on vacation in moab....

Image

the front lower control arms are not protected by the front skid....and take a beating...

Image

the next picture is the transmission superskid from all-j california for my '04 sport....it's cut a little different to fit the change in the catalytic converters that year....I ordered it at the same time as their "boulderbars" rocker sliders....I don't have a picture of the factory transfer case skid but with the transmission skid in between you get complete coverage from the front suspension to the rear drive shaft....I also skinned this up a little trying to make the trails "double diamond"...

Image

this next picture was taken earlier on after my first rock bash trip to tellico, north carolina....you can see how the boulderbars are mounted underneath....they're a little more scraped up now but otherwise good as new....

Image

I also have the third factory skid but don't have a picture....the gas tank skid....and I have the rear hitch which gives protection back there....there was a kilby gas tank skid that was available but I believe they're sold out now....it's supposed to be really good....I also have a poison spyder rear differential cover guard....here you can see I still run the factory muffler....it only has a few small dents in it cause I'm careful.... :P

Image

we lost a lot of older discussion when the forum moved to the new site....I didn't know much when I got here so I tried to read it all....the lift kits for the liberty only give a little extra clearance and you can't get much more than a 31 or 32 inch tire in the wheel wells....so you really can't get the liberty up yet like the other jeeps....there was a lot of advise from the folks who got here first about the priority of jeep armor......I'm happy I took their advise early on....I don't have to worry (as much) when I want to follow someone down a rough trail....the three factory skids have served me fine so far....the transmission skid is a beast....I've had the entire weight of my jeep resting on it and the boulder bars on a downed tree trunk....I had to be pulled of with a winch and I slid right over....

good thing you didnt bother with rustys.

i ordered mine back in the summer and still dont have it.

1st i received one (a week late) that didnt fit
then they finally told me they didnt have the newer version complete
then it was delayed due to powdercoating
then it was lost by ups (actually had a tracking # and ups admitted they lost it)
then another was supposed to sent out (called and they had "dropped the ball" as the shipping guy put it)
now it was supposed to be here middle of the week, still no skid

how rusty's stays in business i dont know. the worst part is the lack of communication. i have heard "we will call you back" too many times when trying to get info. of course they never actually call. screw em, their stuff isnt worth the hassle. had probs a couple years ago ordering tj stuff. shoulda known they hadnt gotten their crap together

Camper,
Good pics. Helpfull for the newbies. Looks like my undercarriage except my muffler looks MUCH worse, my rear trailing arm brackets are MUCH worse, and all four of my skids are MUCH more scraped up. Guess I'm not as careful as you are.

I bent the factory engine skid beyond repair and replaced it with another for $25. I did the same with my first skid row tranny skid and they replaced it with the new version which I was not able to bend. The tcase skid is bent but ok. And I just recently bent the corners on my tank skid which has me concerned because it's touching the tank. I was backing up to pull out a rubicon unlimited and backed into some rocks. My four-x diff guard did it's job then too.

CAn anyone tell me which tank skid is worth the money (and how much money)?

Any body know if there's an aftermarket front suspension skid available or is the Mopar skid durable enough for that area.

Yes, there are. Skid Row and maybe kilby come to mind.

I've found the stock one to be tough. Bent one and replaced it for $25, so I'll give it another try. I bent it on some VERY tough trails (SOLID ROCKS) so I'm giving this one another try before spending $275 on an aftermarket one. Even when it bent, it still worked. Just that when I bent it back, I couldn't get it to align with the holes too well. Pain to get on/off. So I just replaced it. Otherwise I would have continued to use it.

I still have it if anyone wants it for some reason.

Though I have no problems with Rusty's, I will say that they don't explain anything with their skids. It's just a box with a skid and maybe some bolts in it. I had to call and ask if they were supposed to send more bolts, and they told me that two of the skids I got use stock bolts and the other uses the ones it came with. I would be nice for them to inform those who buy their skids about this before-hand, or a little paper stating such in the box could do.

Thanks guys. I picked up the mopar front susp. skid this afternoon and bolted in on already. I'll give it a go and since I'm new to wheeling, I figure when I bend it, then I know that I need to move up a notch in quality.
