Hey Oz you got a part No. for your "custom" rear OME shocks? what are they for, pretty sure ome dosent make shocks for the durango :-O

lol!! nice one funny man.........

OK, i've held back on this for a while but for good reason. The OME off the shelf shocks I use are intended for a completely different vehicle, the Nissan Patrol LWB Wagon. This car is a 3 tonne LWB beast over here in Australia and is in plague proprtions.
The shocks are OME27C (for comfort valving) er, or it might be OME29C lol!! I cant remember just now, but definately one of the 2 !!
They are 660mm extended and 400 compressed.
I've flexed the KJ as for as it will go up and down and believe me, it will tuck up in the guards to a measurement of 375mm (compressed shock length). I believe the stock KJ rear shocks are 360-365mm compressed so all good.
THIS IS WHY IT IS CRUCIAL TO MANUFACTURE A LOWER 40mm ALLOY or STEEL (has to be rock hard whatever you use) LOWER BUMP STOP, TO STOP THE NEW SHOCK FROM SMASHING ITS FOOT VALVE. I believe alot of people will take the lazy and easy way out by just installing the shocks and thinking "Baaah, she'll be right, that'll never hit" WRONG.

I just didnt and still dont, want that to happy to anyone. I wheel my KJ to extremes, but my driving style is a slow crawling pace with no bounce (super rare if it ever happened, and always light). I dont carry any load in the vehicle whatsoever when wheeling so impact will always be less than a fully loaded vehicle.

I just installed these custom springs and regular kings in the rear with Rancho shocks + rear bumptstop

Pics here:

Front is 525mm center of wheel to wheel arch.
Rear is 540mm

Will post again once they have settled.

What did you install them into, stock strut only, or into an aftermarket strut. Also, are you using lift spacers in the strut, or did you just get more lift from the new spring itself?

Thanks for the info.

Correct me if I am wrong but this is a longer spring so you don't need spacers with them. Would imagine that you would need new struts and shocks to get the full flex out of them though.

What ever happened with All J talking to King about getting these in the US. Paying the price of the spring for shipping is harsh but I guess its coming from across the pond and that is a big trip.

Here is the thread about the springs coming to the US:

Looks like the springs are the same height as stock, but with a higher compression rating.

I think OzLtd's were long enough to lift without a spacer (he put a length in the article but I don't know how it compares to stock) - but his should be about 465 lbs/in

The OME ones that Heather talks about should be standard OME length is about 1 1/2 lift over stock (that's why Frankenlifts have a small spacer up front) and should be about 500 lbs/inch

Also King's shipping - individually was Fed-ex - if someone becomes a dealer and stock's them - they ship by freight - slower but cheaper.

Sorry for the late reply mate.
All I have used is the king springs + rancho RSX struts + daystar rear bumpstops.
Nothing else.
No coil spacers, no OTT spacers etc... strictly only springs and struts for my lift.

I'm very happy with it. They seem to have settled about 5mm (1/5"???).
The car drives awesome now. No more bobbing up and down like on the factory suspension.
And I have gained about
FRONT: 50mm (2")
REAR: 65mm (~2.5")

Hope that helps.

EDIT: I do have a CRD with ARB front bar and also front skid plate. This is the only worthwhile spring lift solution for CRD's based on all the stories I've read about other methods used in my opinion.

You could always just do a mass group buy and get it shipped via freight?
I mean with summer around the corner for you guys... the springs would arrive in time.

Has anyone looked into getting springs similar to Oz's (if not the exact same specs) made here stateside? I know All-J's will have the new OMEs coils soon, but I want a true spring lift (READ: no spacers, washers, etc.).

I did a quick Google search last night for "custom coil springs" and there were plenty of sites. I sent quote requests to SpringWorks.com in CA and CoilSprings.com in KS for 2½" lift on a CRD.

Both got back to me today. SpringWorks said 4 custom coils would be $736 + shipping; CoilSprings said they would cost $355 + shipping. (Yes, quite a difference.) Both wanted some more details.

Has anyone else pursued this option? What was the outcome?

wow $355 is pretty cheap, but idk whether to trust that since the other people want $400 more thats kinda weird.

That is certainly at least a "yellow flag" issue. Personally, I could talk myself into the less expensive ones with an argument something like this: Prices of goods, rent, labor, possibly raw materials, etc. are much higher in California than Kansas. In fact, it's making more and more sense as I type...

I would not consider it a yellow flag issue per say. They may be "hungry" wereas the other shop has so much work they just don't want to do it and told you a high price to get you to go elsewhere. I have had many a shop do that because they don't want to work on a libby... afraid they will get cooties or something. I was going to ask Valley Spring if they would make me up some CRD springs. They are here in Phoenix, so perhaps I will go and ask at lunch.

If I'm not mistaken All-Js worked with OME to develop a set of springs for a fully loaded CRD with a ARB bumper and winch

My impression was that the OME coils have a higher spring rate to counter the CRD/ARB sag, but aren't any longer, so they still require the (Daystar, I believe) spacers that accompany the Frankenlift.

Well sounds like we could use a little clarification on the issue then, i.e. do the new front coils match the lift of the rear coils?

Take a look at the motorsport catalog pdf and you can have your own spring lift, the springs cost between 65-100 a piece.
