Hey ya'll. How bout them Cowboys!
Anywho. Listen, I went to the Quachita Jambo and had a blast. The Superlift park ranks trails different than Jeep Jambo USA does so I don't know exactly the ratings you'll understand. The bottom line is this... If you don't have these sliders specifically, meaning if you don't have "boat sides" or "turtle sides" like I do, you wouldn't have stayed with us, in an IFS Liberty anyway. Because I don't have much lift, I scraped across the tops of most of the big rocks. I don't remember the names but the first day, I went with the Blue Group; in this case, it was the big dogs with 35 inch tires and up! I had to get Clint to work his MOJO to get them to allow me to go but man I went and although I scraped the underside up pretty good, it all worked as planned. I don't have much time now but wanted to make a couple of points about these upgrades to the undercarriage.
1. the new sliders worked phenomenally! Had they not been "boatsided", any bracketry would have caught on the rocks and I'd have done some major underbody damage, not to mention needing a serious tow!
2. the bolts didn't come close to getting sheered off. Actually they "hid" just inside the rock contact and worked perfectly.
3. I did sheer off a valve stem with a rock and used the sliders as a highlift jack point! Good thing too cause there was no other place to put that jack.
4. The improved ground clearance was evident right off the bat.
5. As stated previously, I cut the bottom off the rear control arm mounts and plated them. Good thing cause I'd have been hung on them too!
6. If you haven't seen my muffler thread about r/r of the muffler with a smaller one and relocating it higher into the rails, you'd better revisit it. Evenso, I damaged my muffler pretty bad. No punctures but it needed replacing upon my return.
All in all, with some skills, my KJ hung with the big boys most of the day. After I sheered the valve stem late in the day and installed the full sized spare, I got nervous about not having another and went to town for a repair and some spare stems. BTW, don't ever use steel valve stems. They look cool for bling but not for function! Just FYI.
More to come. Hit me with some questions if any so I don't just continue rambling.
Later
Oh, yeah. I don't remember all the names to the trails but I went on every 4 star trail WITHOUT a tow! Two of the 4.5s though required a little assistance. I just didn't have the tire height or ground clearance. Maybe next time! There was an Ultimate Adventure held there in 2003 with a trail that boasted it. That wasn't a piece of cake but I did it without a tow too. I was pretty impressed. I hopefully get some pics/vids up soon.
