What difference does it make what platform the Nitro was built on?

It was built on a modified KJ platform that was eventually intended for the KK or 08 Liberty.

There is so much difference in the two that few, if any, body panels are interchangeable. Uhh.. hello.. the Liberty is taller than the Nitro.

Other manufacturers do the same thing. For example there was the Hummer, then the H2 which was built on the Suburban platform, and now the H3 which is built on the Canyon platform.

They are all different vehicles, Nitro, 08 Liberty/KK, Hummer, H2, H3, Suburban, Canyon...

Ya what he said. At least its a jeep and he is not trying to pass off a nitro on here stating that it is the same as a KK so he should be allowed. :D

Nitro is longer, has a cubic foot more cargo room and doesn't have 4 low. Big enough differences to not buy a Nitro IMO.

BTW, that link is incorrect. Even my '02 Sport has auto-off headlights. All ChryCo products have since the late 90s...and it says the Liberty doesn't?

Sweet pics though:D

The nitro is two inches long, gimme a break . My 03 limited doesn't have auto headlights, so I dunno what you're talking about there. I've driven in a Grand that has them: They turn on by themselves and adjust for highbeams by themselves. The engine, suspension, unibody, and exterior body are near identical Nitro vs. Liberty...get over your Jeep ego guys.

it's 2 inches longer overall and in wheelbase. The transfer case is different. Same platform or not, this is like saying an '88 Thunderbird and an '88 Mustang are the same car. The differences are big enough to sway potential buyers one way or the other...I'm not a Jeep elitist...I have a Liberty for God's sake

BTW...auto OFF headlights are different from automatic headlights;) My '88 T-bird had auto-dimming headlights...it's not like it's anything new 8)

Huge difference, or difference in marketing scheme?

As far as Rick's argument, there is a much larger difference physically than the nitro and KK. Compare the two pictures above to your two:

Just from comparing those pictures....quarter panels are different, doors are different, flares are different, front fenders are different, lift gate is different, tail lights are different, rear side windows are different, rear glass is different, rear bumpers are different. The Liberty is actually taller and a bit narrower than the Nitro, and as I said before, few, if any, of the body panel parts are interchangeable.

I don't disagree that from the rear they look "similar".

What looks the same? Let's see, the 4x4 badge, the upper rear tail light, and it's hard to tell, but they may both share the same door handles.

They both share a 3.7 engine if the Nitro is so equipped. The H3 and the Canyon share the same engine.

Nitro headlights are ugly BUT WAY BETTER THAN THE KK, If I had one I would have to park so I never saw that ugly front end!

Thanks for sharing all these picts!! They are awesome!!

I do have to say...I want a JK Unlimited BAD, but those front fenders GOTTA GO!! Dang! I could serve a 5-course meal to 20 people on those things!!

On the up side...I wouldn't need a roof-top tent...just drape my sleeping bag over the front fender and BAM, bed-time for Bonzo!
