Good input. Thank you.
In terms of tire chirping, what I was envisioning was something at least as bad as driving around a dry parking lot engaged part time 4WD: Yank, grind, pop, wobble. So, the full locker does add to this in any way? On some trails the "part time" 4WD plows so badly I have to put it into "full time" 4WD just to negotiate tight areas.....I would not want this to be exacerbated by the locker which is why I thought it might be nice to be able to turn it off if I needed to.

Does the air mechanism on the AB fail on people on a regular basis? Could there be a way of routing the air lines so they would not be damaged?

Also, I have heard that the DL has a severe gear lash that can be quite irritating when starting out - they mention something about it on their website I glanced at. Perhaps there are different designs some which do this and some that don't ??? I obviously need to do more technical research on this topic but prefer hearing street-wise advice and experiences before hand so I at least know what I am researching!

Thanks again,
Chris

woha there fella
lots of questions
let me give the quick answers
The Detroit locker has been VERY improved over the past years so it is not what it used to be
there is some bind and chirp but NOTHING like 4wd and dry ground
The problem with the ARB is the air line getting cut ,pulled ,snagged, ect. out on the trail that is all
carry a "air line repair kit" and you are fine ,as long as you know how to put it on
The other problem is that there are 2 O-rings in side the locker that go out ,easy to fix also but requires you to remove the locker from the diff
I think that the gear lash or "drive line slack" is more for their "lunch box locker" like the power trax
STAY AWAY ,2 broken power trax should tell you that

Excellent info. Thank you!
Sorry for the barrage of questions but I hate making uninformed decisions and finding this forum has been like a kid in a candy store for me.
As I collect info on the various mods in this forum, I bookmark the ones that make the most sense based upon my knowledge of physics, dynamics and manufacturing technology and then list them according to cost vs benefit. The locker is the most expensive mod but it is also the most dramatic. In November, I put a nasty scratch down the side of my left front quarter panel after sliding sideways while attempting to negotiate a steep section of trail for the 5th time. It required the right front and left rear tires to come off the ground simultaneously and the only way for me to get past it was via momentum...and since it was steep and tight the final attempt threw me off to the left into some alder saplings. Lockers would have prevented this situation. (Of course, as the old story goes, it would have simply gotten me further from the highway and in far worse conditions before I got stuck  )
