OK BnB here you go if you have a weak spring say and install new shocks the shocks will wear out quicker because they are working more due to the weak spring.

Same thing installing a new spring and a worn out shock, the spring is going to hold the vehicle up sitting still but drive down the road and as the spring compresses then the shock starts working ( not well cause its worn out) and then makes the springs work more and they wear out quicker.

By the way there is a lot of good information on this forum in a lot of posts over the years but it seems a lot of misinformation has been coming more and more lately, wonder why that is ?

I know what you meant Tony, just had to add to it so maybe some would understand where I was coming from.

Those are local, canadian prices, some of the better prices I have been quoted actually. I thought about ordering from the US but given the exchange, shipping, customs, I don't think it would be any cheeper at all, actually, it can be more

Fwiw I guess TOMMUDD is trying to say that if a shock is absolutely shot and doesn't put the brake on the recoil action of the spring it goes 'up-down-up- down-up-down' whenever you hit a bump.

If you keep that up for some time you will ware the spring out sooner as with some decent shocks....don't you agree?

Yes i agree. I also agree that once you replace spark plugs every time you start your engine your wearing them out. The more your motor runs the faster they wear. Also with your oil, tires and just about anything else on your rig.

The original poster did not ask "If i run my stock shocks forever will it cause my spring to wear out in 300,000 miles?" He asked first if running the stock shocks was ok or would it cause damage for one year or untill next winter when he could replace them. The answer to that is No. No damage will happen to the springs if he uses the stock shocks for a year.

You guys take everything to the extream here. And opinions are stated as facts. I try not to post here anymore because of this stuff, but my god man. If you want a perfect rig that is perfect in everyway spend $40,000 and leave it setting in a garage and never drive it. The rest of the world will be out having fun driving there rigs that function just fine.

Sheesh, you have some anger in you. I will be the first to admit, I don't alwayse like what these guys have to say, but, in the end, I agree. Its better to do it all at once, and with the better parts. If I were you I would back off a bit there, your sounding like a cranky little kid. You just jumped in here full swing, thinking your on my side, defending my ideas, but yah know what, your on your own here, I'm not standing in your side of the ring...

Anyway, saddly none of those places are really local for me, some of them dont even ship to canada on there website lmao. I've sent a few emails out but I don't to hear back more positive prices than expect. I'm thinking I will keep my stock front shocks for a bit, unless tommud tells me that will cause instant failure :) From what I hear those things are built solid, and there for offroading, so there built for abuse, a few months on shot shocks wont kill them, well, would it? lol

My God, why would I drive it after putting money into it?

That defeats the purpose.

OKOK, this is the plan. I'm gonna get the OME springs, ASAP, likelly order some skyjacker rear shocks just cause there so cheap. I will run this for a few months. Some people here tell my my 235/85/16 KM2s wont fit with just OME coils. Well if that turns out to be true I will have to switch my back to my winter tires, and then wait a bit and find a way to get bigger. For the sake of time and money, I'm going in stages, and trying to get it piece by piece.

Why not 245/75-16 KM2s?

And why Skyjacker rear shocks? They're no cheaper than the Ranchos for the Durango :?

ah man Obihann, I thought I was bad with going over stuff and asking the same questions posted on here, but you ask the same questions you've already asked before and then you do it again and again in the same thread.... I'm surprised no one has popped a fuse yet LOL, guys please be patient with him....it's been a hard winter up here for us LOL

Listen to the guys!!! DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME! I know you want to keep up with your buddies because they have big tires too but what good is it gonna do when you bust a spring on the trail and they have to haul your stupid back. Get the suspension done right....put more money aside for tires at a later time....your buddies will still be around then and your KJ will kick stupid!

Ok here it is.
I ordered front and rear OME HD springs, rear bumpstops, front and rear RSX shocks from All Js (as listed on their site)... my final bill CANEHDIAN was $896.81 and that includes shipping. Now brokerage from UPS and taxes were altogether $172.42. So the grand total was $1069.23 CANEHDIAN. I live in Ottawa by the way. Yea it's expensive living in Canada these days but it's no reason to cut back on the important things or doing something half stupid.
And another thing, the service from Heather at All Js was awesome which also helped with my decision.
BTW how was your ride this winter in the cold? Were the shocks a little stiff? My rear end would bottom out on just about every bump and pot hole.... now I need warm weather to install all this stuff. Good Luck with your decisions.....now and later

couldn't have said it better my self..

plus if your planning on keeping the stock shocks then changing them out later you'll be paying double the time and labor to put in your lift.. and assemble the shock,spring,ect... so if you figure in that cost it's actually cheaper to do it right the first time.

At 56,000 miles my front shocks/springs were so shot that it felt like I was on the bumpstops every pothole or expansion joint. Oddly enough, the rears seem fine... I think the front has too low of a spring rate from the factory, and it wipes out the front shocks in the process. I know that is hardly a new idea, but it fits what happened to my jeep pretty well.
